No Russian? It seems it's still an important language for Lithuania, with Russia as your biggest neighbour. More than French is economically important to LT, je dirais.
Re: Which languages do you know?
You are right, if you have buisness here in Lithuania or looking for a good job, Russian language as English is much more important than mentioned French or even German. Unfortunately, many young people which didn't choose Russian as second foreign language at school now are less compepetive on local labour market in comparsion with those who can speak Russian.groentje wrote:No Russian? Re: Which languages do you know?
Well, it's a good thing to learn other languages beside Russian or English, but I don't agree Russian is not important anymore. Russia is still a very big country, and in spite of the economical crisis, there, it's stil a huge market, right at your backdoor. A lot closer than France, Belgium, Spain... anyway. It's not impossible 90% of Lithuanians will never even meet one Spaniard, leave alone a Spaniard who doesn't speak any other language, but most Lithuanians might very well meet with a Russian with only a rudimentary knowledge of any other language you know.

Re: Which languages do you know?
As of now, I only speak 2 languages.
English - I can speak completely fluently and is my first language.
Spanish - I'm alright at Spanish, and I've been learning it for more than 5 years. Reading and understanding is easy but speaking is harder, and vocabulary is hard to remember. It's the only other language I can hold a (basic) conversation in.
I can understand:
French - I can understand about 30% of French, as in ways it's similar to Spanish. Speaking is very hard for me, as is pronunciation. I could speak if I absolutely had to.
Italian - I can understand about 35%. I find it easier than French. I might be able to speak the tiniest bit, but I've never taken it.
Portuguese - I can barely understand a thing, about 5-10%. Definitely not able to speak it.
Catalan - Bit easier to understand than Portuguese, and can understand about 20-30%. I also might be able to speak a tiny bit.
German - Barely understandable for me, about 5-10%. Can't speak it in the very slightest.

I can understand:
