What after 2002??

Euro tracking discussion in English

What do you like the most?

A database using a combination of serial code, print code and bill value. That way there's no need to know the print year.

A database using also the print year. I'm looking at the print year already. No problem for me!

What after 2002??

Post by bhoeyb »

At the moment, all notes are printed in 2002. What about next year?
Would it be necessary to enter the year? At the moment, it's all 2002. It's going to be more difficult after 2002: you'll have to notice the correct year too :( . That's going to be more work, esp. if you're entering lots of notes  .
Isn't it possible to run our database with a combination of serial code, printer code and bill value??
Things would be more easier that way ...

Well, I think the printing year is also important... that way you have another check to see if you got a real hit or not...

And, I don't expect 2003 notes to circulate that soon, the majority will stay 2002 (at least in the beginning of 2003).

I thiink there will be more new users on EBT, if we keep the system simple  So, I say: don't ask for the year :?

I think it is not real important to watch the year. Important is to have a check up the code and serial numbers to be sure there are no fake hits...
If you don't like traveling, just watch where your Eurobill goes and let the banknote do the travelling for you!!

I hope the ECB works with the old Dutch system: Each design banknote  year of design (or year of first issue).

On the Belgian notes, there even weren't any years......
If there will be notes with '2003' on them, I think I'll enter them as 2003.
But I don't think it will be very important.
(but I like my own stats to be correct, and since I also keep my notes in my own database, I can make some funny statistics with them... So I'm going to enter the years too!)

I'm for entering the year as well. Every bit of information counts...

Denomination and printer code are more important, for checking purposes. Adding the year would be even more secure (but maybe not all users will bother to get it correct, so in the end, the check will be omitted)

I wanted to vote, yes (enter the year) but I took the other option ... see how easy an error is made

I am afraid that I will make more typing errors (wrong year).

My proposal:
- Make the entry of the year voluntary
- Find the correlation between year and serial from the data of the users who have entered the year
- I hope that after a while (4 months?) we shall know the following
a) a range of serials which are certainly younger than 2002
b) a range of serials which are certainly older than 2003
c) a range we are not certain about
- If a user enters a note from the uncertain catagory, he will be asked for the year of the respective note
- while gathering more information about the uncertain range, this uncertain range will be confined step by step

Am I dreaming unrealistic things?

As far as I know, there will be no notes with copyright year '2003'. The next (mini-)redesign of the notes will be when Wim Duisenberg resigns the ECB presidency and his successor has to "sign" the notes.

Even if there is a different copyright year than '2002' in the future, it will have no effect on the serial number, because the serial number is unique (on each denomination) throughout the whole series of present notes (Kalina-design of european style portals and bridges) which will be with us for many years to come.

I know it won't affect the serial number, but if I enter a note with year 2005 and someone else enters the same serial, but with year 2002, you know something went wrong....
Is that a real hit or not ? :)
well, only future will tell... :D

*sight* I'm telling this again and again. They can reproduce old notes with the same serialnumber if the old bill is not worth circulating. This means that there is another printer (another shortcode) and I guess probably another year too, but the serial stays the same....

Input the year is not an option, it's a must to hold the best eurobilltracking site there is.

Mr Euro wrote:*sight* I'm telling this again and again.
But it doesn't make it true.

Where did you read this?
There will be no replacement notes in Euroland.
Notes are printed in sheets, not in single notes. If one note would be printed with the same serial number, there would be a whole sheet of duplicate serial numbers.
Mr Euro wrote:This means that there is another printer (another shortcode) and I guess probably another year too, but the serial stays the same....
The printing of notes is commissioned by an NCB to a printer 1 with the specification: print 40 mio notes using serial number 230,000,001 to 280,000,000, and to printer 2 ordering: print 15 mio notes using the range 310,000,001 to 330,000,000. What should a replacement order look like?
Mr Euro wrote:Input the year is not an option, it's a must to hold the best eurobilltracking site there is.
Sure, but only because of the possibility to check for fake input, as Tiger said just before.
