Guilder Banknotes

Post by eurobillsandcoins »

I was allowed to buy all 12 legacy currencies but my suppliers are only offering 1 cent euro for 1000 guilders. What happened in the Netherlands? The 1000 guilder was the newest version.

Maybe, your suppliers are afraid because of the high value of the banknote: if you bring them a large amount of 1000 guilder banknotes, there may be a change, that the european bank asks questions about the person bringing it in.... :?:

In my local bank, I saw a man bringing some 250 guilder banknotes..
I remember this, because that banknote was my favourite dutch banknote.

He didn't have any problem bringing it to the bank, but one is not allowed to change it for Euro. The only posslibility is, to put the money on your own account number..
If you don't like traveling, just watch where your Eurobill goes and let the banknote do the travelling for you!!

The problem is that all currencies exchanges I went to(I spent a 1 1/2 lunch break) going around currency exchanges to see if they would buy guilders. I guess the DNB cut-off the time limit for foreign suppliers to cash in guilders. Last October I sent 25000 guilders back to my supplier and I got all the money back. What should I do with all these guilders??
ebay? I cashed in at least 500 euro worth of each legacy currency yesterday and they accepted it all except the guilders. I wonder. Yesterday I had no time to ask but next time I'll ask. I also have at least 5 UNC bills for each currency and denomination. (Yes,even 1000 guilder bills and 500,1000DM) Nobody wants them. What should I do? I also deal in numismatics with coins and bills. Today I had a person bring in more than 100,000 French Francs. I'm surprised at how a person could forget so much money. Today also a person came in and bought 175,000 euro and cleaned me out of all my 5,10,20,50,100,200 bills. He left me only with a large pile of 500E bills. I'm having a servere shortage of bills and my suppliers wont give me any 5,10,20 bills. (giving very little 50 too.) He took all those crisp bills. All those Z T003 50s and V 20s and X 10s from printer R. I took a hour to service him and I was suspicious as why he would need so much euro, it was crazy! I only had 3 of my cashiers working and me. I normally have 12 cashier windows and because of a snowstorm last night 2 feet of snow was dumped on our city. While I was servicing my customers long line formed (10 people). I ordered a automated currency exchange machine to install outdoors that changes 30 different currencies. I cant spend much more money! I only make around a E1,000,000 profit average, this year its around 780,000E because of the euro and the disappearing currencies. After the pay for the staff, maintenence spot in heart of city, I only have around E50,000 a year to feed my family.

Just today it was announced on Dutch television that the DNB acceptes paper money up till 2032, with no cost for you. But I think you'll have to do that here in The Netherlands.

(Or you can give the money to me ;) )
One step done, many more to go

indeed the national banks of the different euro countries should accept the notes of the old currencies at least for a couple of years (mostly 10-30 years)

Here are the time limits for all Euro countries: http://www.ecb.int/change/bn01.htm - complete with addresses of banks accepting legacy currency.
