I just figured out this was the tour de France map where I forgot to paint Corsica :o

It is fixed now. Tanks again for spotting that

aloxe wrote: Mon Dec 04, 2023 10:46 pm I assume Burdie has also notes recorded in Cherbourg (both 50100 and 50110) because the request of his cities returns Cherbourg with the following object:

Code: Select all

{"city":"Cherbourg","country":"France","top_zipcode":"50110","nrlocations":2}
This is why I expect the empty array to contain 2 postcodes.
Right, that part was wrong. This is where it gets complicated...

For background, there is a separate table which records the number of notes entered by each user from each location on each day, to make some queries quicker.

Burdie had previously entered some notes from Cherbourg but then later on edited them to be Cherbourg-en-Cotentin. This left the aforementioned "usernotelocations" table in the following state (actually the city name is from another table, but included here for clarity):

Code: Select all

+---------+---------+----------+------------+-------+-----------------------+
| user_id | country | location | date | count | city |
+---------+---------+----------+------------+-------+-----------------------+
| 11641 | France | 42917 | 2006-04-16 | 0 | Cherbourg |
| 11641 | France | 42922 | 2007-03-26 | 0 | Cherbourg |
| 11641 | France | 604308 | 2007-03-26 | 7 | Cherbourg-en-Cotentin |
| 11641 | France | 658492 | 2006-04-16 | 1 | Cherbourg-en-Cotentin |
+---------+---------+----------+------------+-------+-----------------------+
Normally these zero count rows are harmless and filtered out, except apparently in the mycities API call. I now added a "count > 0" condition to the mycities API call and the "Cherbourg" entries are no longer shown.

Wow thanks for the explainations Avij, this makes it clearer. This is an edge case but a real use case. I'm still happy I could handle it before you fixed it.

Municipalities change names sometime and I understand some users want to keep up with the name. Cherbourg-en-Cotentin only exist since 2016. In fact Burdie, this is not just a new name. Cherbourg-en-Cotentin is the merge of Cherbourg-Octeville with some surrounding municipalities as you can see on the map:

Image

Cherbourg-Octeville being already a merger municipality from Cherbourg and Octeville in 2000 if I remember well.

Your change was correct, a note found in Cherbourg is a note found in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin but Cherbourg still exists as a town, part of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin where you can find notes.

I don't know why and when I changed it. I think Cherbourg flaired up after the first entering of your (Aloxe) 36680 program.
Sorry for all the trouble, I won't do it again
Thank you both of you.

The Luxembourg site has been decomissioned due to spam. I plan to redo it once the french one is stable.

I made a small update to the french https://ebt.fr.eu.org/ today with a good list of bug fixes and enhencements:
- a few design fixes,
- former municipality now get automatically attached to the new municipality
- fix problems dur to unusual departement numbering with oversee departement (on 3 digits) and Corsica (with letters) now all related municipalities will be counted.
- better list details around locations with no known municipality with suggestion for correct name or postcode
- add a link to EBT to fix wrong locations (unfortunatly eurobilltracker doesn't offer an API to list banknotes from a user city.)
- all links to forum can be translated (except the BBcode that in in the language of the game)

The biggest news is that municipalities that may be forgotten will now be counted. Go visit France.

A small update to the french https://ebt.fr.eu.org/ to sort the list of players accorting to the number of municipalities but also population, surface or even mean municipality height. Check with which one you score best https://ebt.fr.eu.org/en/leaderboard/

It is always good to know what does an algorythme, on the dashboard, I added the list of all municipalities and your associated location[/b].

municipality names are the official name from the french administration. Locations are the names you entered in EBT with the poscode you gave. This may help you to spot places that the algorythme didn't sort correctly. Names that are different to the municipalities are in red.

This could be names of hamlets or other well known places
Image

accent or dashes missing

or former municipalities that are now only delegated municipality
Image

All these cases can remain the way they are but some may need correction on EBT. In that case you can look for your notes on EBT.

Hope that helps.

New update with a few corrections and on main new feature that will help you plan your trips to France: You will be able to explore the districts (départements) to find unvisited municipalities.

Once logged in choose "explore districs" in your profile menu. Then on the page you'll have to choose one "département" (usually with the 2 first digits of the postode where you are). You will then get the map of the district with all municipalities.

This map can be enlarged to fill your phone screen. When you zoom in you'll get enough details to figure out all usefull information for eurohunters (ATMs, shops, banks…) These data come from OpenStreetMap and in France it it quite well maintained.

So I wish you a pleasant stay in France and happy hunting!

As I insist on using some names in Dutch for certain French communes (because their historical importance or historical local language), Parijs (i.e. Paris in Dutch) and Rijsel (aka Lille) aren't recognised as places in the game, not sure how to proceed.

Normally, your location will be recognised with the right postcode but not well spelled name in 'unknown municipalities. You should be able to associate Parijs, Rijsel or Duijnkerk with Paris, Lille ou Dunkerque. The municipalities will then be listed in French.

Unfortunately, this doesn't work for those cities, which amazes me, as they are probably the most important cities were it makes sense (for me) to use the Dutch name. For Dunkerque, I didn't even have to do something, for Bailleul, it worked as you described, bu Parijs and Rijsel are simply unknown, and want me to correct them in EBT.

I see these entries are listed with the correct postcode but the interface doesn't offer you the choice to save the way you spelled it. This is probably because there is only one municipality with this postcode. I should modify this to allow flexibility so you can reccord "endonymes".
