Trichet-bills

Post by Tárrega »

Hey!

We don't yet seem to have thread for the different signatures of the ECB presidents? :D In the Finnish forum we do have, so I thought of creating an international one so that we can share some pictures of the veterans of the euro notes here on the forum  And I'll make one for the notes with Duisenberg's signatures as well if there's interest for this!

I got these almost UNC :flag-gr: :note-10: from a RIA money exchange in Copenhagen :flag-dk: at the central station, all with a matching printer code..

Looking forward to see some pictures of good old notes!

OMG That image brings back a couple of memories :D
In Portugal, we had back in the day, a rather large amount of pooling :note-10: :flag-gr: Y-N.
This was way, way back in 2009, 2010. Yeah that long ago
And even before that date there was some type of pooling of :note-10: :flag-gr: , and a little after that date as well
Portugal has had a very long, and rich history of pooling with Greece, why? Don't know. Since becoming an active tracker I've seen this Greek notes being pooling here in Portugal:
Duisenberg
:note-10: Y-N010, N011, N012, N014.
Trichet
:note-10: Y-N016, N017, N018, N022, N025, N026, N027, N029, N030.
Mario Draghi
:note-5: YA-Y002, Y003, Y004, Y005, Y006, Y007
:note-10: YA-Y002

Cool, that's very interesting Dawizz! It was a pretty amazing thing to get handed over the desk, slightly unbelievable these days, now they're part of my collection, and one has become a gift for another banknote-collector. I'm by the way right now in Lisboa, and haven't got an old note from circulation yet.. still hoping to get one though :D

Don't lose hope. :D

I live in Lisbon and hardly a day passes without me putting my hands on at least one old note. This year I already found 48 from the first series:
:note-5: 1 (in 127)
:note-10: 4 (in 553)
:note-20: 6 (in 674)
:note-50: 29 (in 459)
:note-100: 4 (in 62)

Anyone knows something about these P/E :note-5:, maybe what year they were made or for what country they were designated to as pooling notes? Got these in Copenhagen today, all 9 notes with matching printer codes and some in UNC condition.. Thanks!

Hi Tárrega, great find!

Looking at the EBT public data and Guy Sohier's catalog, here is the profile for your E004 / P 5€ notes:
  • Origin & Printer: The 'P' serial officially belongs to the Netherlands, and 'E' means they were printed by Oberthur in France.
  • Print Run & Year: There were about 159 million notes printed in this specific run. This plate/serial combination was first officially spotted in circulation in late 2009.
  • Pooling Destination: Based on EBT geographic dispersion stats, these were definitively pooled to Spain. Spain recorded its first entries exactly in October 2009 (matching the official discovery date) and went on to hold a massive, disproportionate number of registers for this plate (over 45,000 notes). This completely dwarfs the Netherlands' own numbers (~9,400) and accounts for a huge chunk of the plate's genuine European distribution.
  • Why UNC in Copenhagen today? Since these were issued in late 2009 in Spain, finding 9 matching/sequential notes in UNC condition in Denmark almost 17 years later means you likely stumbled upon a remnant of an old original bundle. It was probably sitting undisturbed in a bank vault or an exchange office for over a decade before being handed out to you.

A final note: this plate/serial combo is not on my Plate Dispersion Map yet, because I still haven't processed the 1st (2002) Series. Feel free to browse the interactive map if you want to know about any Europa combo; in a few weeks, I hope to get the 1st Series there too.

I am from the Netherlands and I can confirm that E004/P :note-5: did not occur often here despite that the P was the country code for the Netherlands. I can only say for sure that E002/P and E005/P were pooling here in The Netherlands and some E006-E008/P possibly in a neighboring country like Germany.
