Seas and oceans

Post by Olivier »

Which is the nicest sea (or ocean) you've been swimming in? :-)

I have put my fingers in the Pacific Ocean (in L.A.) but not more...
I spent a part of my childhood near the Atlantic, in Africa.
I now am on the other side...

I have put my fingers in the Baltic sea (near Copenhaguen), and the Adriatic also (in Venise).

What about you?

Actually I have never swimmed in a sea. I have touched the water of Baltic sea and Arctic ocean. I'd like to visit Northern Norway again. I really want to see that big ocean again.

The Baltic Sea is just an hour away from Hamburg, so I've been there quite a lot. Apart from that I've touched the North sea, the Atlantic, and the Mediterranean Sea. In Bali I swam (I think) in the Indian Ocean, and in Thailand in the South China Sea. I'm a wave lover! :) I've got to know the Pacific Ocean at the US westcoast and in San Francisco where the big waves lick right into the big city.

I would like to visit South-Sea islands like Tahiti, Hawaii, Samoa etc. Another one of my dreams is swimming in the Dead Sea. Must be a nice feeling to float on the surface of that salt-saturated lake.

In Pays basque (Biarritz), the waves are amazing!

And take a shower after that! ;-)
You might scratch your skin after such a bath...

I haven't been to many seas but I like the Dutch seas, they are not very cold.

But in 1999 I was in England, (in the south).
I had very high waves there, that was cool!

I've been in the 'fjorden' from Norway. (swimming) that was much colder!!

Arctic?

I did visit Norkapp by bus ten years ago. It was very warm and beautiful day. There were no ice or polar bears.

The sea doesn´t freeze on the coast of Northern Norway. Actually before the world war II the only Finnish all year icefree port was Petsamo on the Arctic Ocean. Now it is a part of Russia.

I like the Algarvian sea. The Algarve, where I'm from, is the southernmost point of Portugal and it is after the Gibraltar Strait, so the waters of the Mediterranean and the Atlantic mix. In most Portuguese beaches, the water is very cold compared with the Algarvian one. Barcelona's beaches also come to my mind... ;)

If you say so I should go there again. Maybe the single day I spent in Biarritz was an exception: the waves were not very high :(

Yes, I have been there a couple of years ago(in Albufeira)
I also was on Corfu (Nissaki), so the Aegean sea is also quite nice to have a swim.
Le Golfe du Lyon(Les Saintes Maries de la Mer), I also visited, more than 20 years ago.

I don't like Mediterranean sea... it's like swim in a soup (high temperature and no waves).

I prefer the Atlantic ocean (Madeira island, Canarian islands) or that mix of Algarve.

Usually I go to Ericeira, 10 km of my house, there we have big waves and sometimes you need lots of courage to get in the water, but I like it
