Nasty Nyxem virus set to strike

Be careful

Computer security firms are bracing themselves as the moment approaches when the Nyxem virus will strike. this report printed in jangandjeo.

On 3 February, 2006 the bug will start erasing Word documents, spreadsheets and other common files on infected PCs. Compromised machines will also be used as launch platforms to help the virus seek out fresh victims
Because the virus is known to be lurking on more than 300,000 PCs, this scanning could generate large amounts of net traffic as it activates.

Today boss called me and told that my computer is infected too. 8O He had read e-mails in my computer because I'm on vacation and it came that way. Luckily I have backups of everything important. Map showing spreading of the virus.

I heard that the virus was spread by a ZIP-file, it was in e-mails with porn-related texts in it. If people opened or un-zipped that file, their PC was infected...

Ermm.. Would have been a bit better telling about this on February the 2nd, not 3rd.. That way possibly infected computers could have been kept off for February the 3rd. There shouldn't be any problem on 4th, just 3rd. So, if people had gone for example for a walk or skiing for that day, they would have avoided the virus infection.
