Not too much, though I think it was easier to recognize the coins when each one had a different picture - all the copper / gold-colored euro coins have the same picture (except for the value) and this makes it hard to quickly distinguish between coins. I know some countries have a different picture on the back of each euro coin, Ireland just has a harp...

missing the ols currency
Hi,
In the beginning I missed the old guilders very much. But now I like the euro better. Especialy when I go on vakation, I'ts very nice if don't have to change first.
And it's of course very fun to enter the notes here on eurobilltracker.
I can't wait after the hollydays, then we have a lot of foreign notes to enter.

Mayby some of the old coins seem ugly/dirty but they are over 50 years old, some new euro's are already very dirty (most 1-2-5 c) and I really miss ald dutch coins like the "Rijksdaalder" (nlg 2,50 =eur 1,15) which is a real coin, it is big and heavy. or the "dubbeltje" (nlg 0,10 = eur 0,04) a lovely small coin (it was used for the design of the hole in a CD)
and i must confess that i still convert rather much

I miss our 100 BEF bill a bit, as James Ensor was on it, and I live just like Ensor in Ostend, (I kept 1) but the Euro Bills designs are ok, although the 5 euro bill is small, and the 100 is BIG.
The coins are some of a problem to me, before the Euro, we had 4 coins: 1BEF, 5BEF, 20 BEF and 50 BEF, now, we have 8 of them, but they are well designed, and I'm getting used to them.
I experience the Euro as good, because I Study in Holland, and return every week, I don't have to put guilders with me any more, and I got rid of that ugly Frans Hals 10 guilder note
greets,
SteC

I guess you're rich...Craft wrote:BTW, well before New Year I took the effort to collect at least a couple of banknotes of each currency that were to die because of the euro. I have these:
Finland: FIM 10,20,50,100,500,1000 (which is all of them of course + many older ones)
Germany: DEM 5,10,20,50(two versions),100 (+ some older ones)
Austria: ATS 50,100 (and regretting I didn't buy 500 or 1000)
Netherlands: NLG 10,25,50,100 (regretting not having 250 and 1000)
Belgium: BEF 100,200,500 (regretting not having the one with V.Horta)
Luxembourg: None!
Ireland: IEP 5,10
France: FRF 50,100,200,500 (that makes all of them; and a couple of older ones)
Spain: ESP 1000,2000
Portugal: PTE 500,1000,2000
Italy: ITL 1000,2000,5000,10000
Greece: GDR 100,200,1000,10000
Do you only have the latest version of those bills? Every couple of years they designed a new note. IIRC the last one was the 10 guilder note. This was the only denomination with both a new and an old design as legal tender before the euro came.Craft wrote:Netherlands: NLG 10,25,50,100 (regretting not having 250 and 1000)
BTW, i must still have a 5 guilder bill somewere
Here is a link with all the old dutch banknotes (at least the ones i can remember) http://home.planet.nl/~j.piers/history-eng.html
