Ratio of foreign to domestic notes

Post by John S »

What would anyone estimate in their home territory is the ratio of foreign notes and coins they receive on an average in change, from banks and from ATMs?

How well are the individual country notes mixing? I'm sure in tourist areas, they mix well, but what about non-tourist areas?

Also, does anyone have an idea as to how many Europeans travelling outside of the eurozone take euro bills or cheques with them as opposed to how many convert to dollars? Do banks and travel institutions ever encourage travellors not to bother to buy dollars and just bring euros with them?

That is great. That shows that the euros are indeed mixing. The only thing I would change is the way you identify each country. Why not use the designated auto codes instead? Example:

D for Germany, F for France, E for Spain, etc. They may be more recognisale then URL extensions.

You know that you can see the diffusion of Euro bills here?
http://www.eurobilltracker.eu/diffusion

Here you'll find much of the information you're asking for. :)

thanks.. as to the auto codes, the fact is that to me the URL extensions are more recognisale... I don't know all the auto codes...

and all the extensions have 2 letters, while the auto codes go from 1 to 3...

The upward movement of the graph in the beginning of 2003 is interesting. Is that due to a release of new coins?

the graph only referr to notes.. but we shouldn't take much conclusions, after all, it's made with few data, only my data..

what's clear, is the influence of pooling system, with high number of dutch, german and some greek notes, that aren't due to natural diffusion..
