Germans might remember him, he scored the goal the qualyfied Portugal for the 1986 World Cup, Portugal beat West Germany 1-0 in Germany. He's now the host of a program on SportTv after a not very sucessful career as a coach.
I got to go to work now, I will post a picture later.

It was the first game West Germany had lost during World Cup Qualifications. A goal from something like 40 meters away from goal in Neckarstadion in Stuttgart.
That's why he's called the Hero of Stuttgart .

Is it supposed to be a comic about a real player?

I don't know him, and the most known for me is Oliver (the Spanish name, Captain Tsubasa in Japan, I don't know elsewhere)

Yeah, he's known as Oliver Tsubasa here in Portugal, too.
But the player I posted is an English one. I believe he was in a comic strip for a newspaper or something which started in the 1950's

This player was supposed to appear in a special stamp collection in England by the time of Euro '96.
