Counterfeit Bills Detection

Post by edmelga »

Hi to all...

I am looking for the best machine/pen/whatever way of detecting counterfeit euro bills for an hotel reception desk. I've been told to search around for this and they told me that they already have an UV detector and a pen detector.
I guess that they already check all the security features of the euro bills, but they just want a quick way of checking it.

What do you sugest?

Well, entering the bill on EBT and checking whether the serial number + short code corresponds...

That is already a good hint !

And, I am not kidding : 7.92*57 (top4-user in France) is a pharmacist and use this to check his bills...

For the machines, I leave it to the others to answer...

Phaseolus, you could add that 7.92*57 has already detected a fake :note-100: with EBT.

And I would add that sometimes the serial number can be right, then you have to check the security features of the note (filigran...). There is a list on the ECB's site and I think that this is enough, no need to buy something.

Most people know nothing about the excellent security features on euro notes, and that's a pity. You wouldn't need a machine at all, like alex77r said. Most cash machines just have the ultraviolet light installed because it's really fast and as the store owner you don't have to teach the features to your employees, just ask them to verify that the "spots" show in uv light.

I think the best verification you can get is when you check the security features with your own eye. Read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euro_bankn ... y_features. Stunning, isn't it? 8) For example, it takes less than a second to notice the hologram bar or decal, and touch the raised BCE ECB EZB EKT EKP text & the vertical bands next to it. If a counterfeit note has these features and if even the checksum is OK, it would be very impressive.

Just my two cents... :)

Thanks to all.
I've printed out the security features from the wikipedia link Viperazzi gave.
I've told them about the EBT but they say it would take too long to check, so they will check the cheksum and the others features in doubtfull bills after checking in the uv detector.

Once we have detected a counterfeit note ( :note-50: ) when we saw that the printed "50" at the backside down right remained dark brown, although we have turned it around, exposing it to different lighting. Genuine 50-notes change their colours from dark-brown to violet.
