Why is a hit moderated?

Post by larko »

As a not very active user I was glad to receive my first international hit the other day. Now I note that the hit does not appear in my listing. It has instead become a moderated hit. Would somebody kindly fill me in what this is all about?

FAQ wrote:Interesting hits and the moderation system
We currently have a binary rating system for hits - it can either be interesting or not. If a hit is not considered interesting it will be moderated and not be shown in the list of recent hits or used in rankings. Don't worry if one of your hits gets moderated, you still have full access to the hit data and you can still share it with other users.

The moderation of a hit can happen either manually by a few selected members, or automatically if a hit matches certain characteristics, for example if its time difference is 0 days or if there are multiple, very similar hits between two users at the same time. By default every new hit is considered interesting.

Thanks for the advice. I obviously regarded my first international hit as interesting. Also, it happened 171 days after I entered the note. But I am not arguing back if the hit is not interesting in somebody else's opinion.

If the hit was moderated manually, there must have been a reason. You may contact the support team (via contact@eurobilltracker.com) to inquire or request unmoderation.

Alternatively, there is this topic. There you can find examples of requests for unmoderation and even moderation, if you do have a hit you don't consider interesting.

Thanks for the info again. I'll let it stay as it is. I am not taking this too seriously. I just enter the few notes that actually pass through my hands. It is just something cool to do but I do not care of stats. And it would naturally not even cross my mind to enter anything fake.

Hm, I don't see a reason why your hit should be moderated, I've restored it back to an interesting hit. I'll ask the moderator why he thought it'd be uninteresting. Sorry for the trouble.

Thank you. :-)

It is no big deal, though. I am tracking the bills because I am interested in doing so, not for appearing in stats. So little cash passes my hands anyway, that I have no chance to show up anything, nor a need to do so.

Alright, some more information about the hit popped up. Suntzu's friend found the serial number of that banknote from your blog and gave the serial number to Suntzu for entering to EBT. Suntzu assumed the serial number was from one of his friend's banknotes.

This can be also witnessed by examining the short code -- the short code you entered is correct, while the other one is totally incorrect.

As a reminder:
1) You should not publish full serial numbers of your banknotes anywhere, as there might be persons who .. see 2
2) You should not enter notes you haven't personally seen, and using serial numbers found from Internet and/or other publications is strictly prohibited

As the hit is not a real hit, it has to remain moderated.

Thank you again! I never thought somebody would do anything like that. I am going to anonymize the full number in the blog A.S.A.P. I am also going to make a note about this bizarre incident in the blog and hope that a real hit with that bill occurs.

Of course, it was just too much of a coincident that the very bill which I randomly took a picture of would come up across Europe.

Right! I have now modified the serial number in my two blog posts and straithened it out in a separate post. Remains to be seen if the tenner actually turns up at the site.

I know Suntzu personally, I'm the one that introduced him to EBT, and avij already said what happened and I concur. I just have one thing to add, suntzu only found what happened because after the hit he saw the url of your blog on your EBT profile and found the picture of note there.

That picture made the "hit" possible but also made it possible to found it wasn't real.

Anyway, the truth has now been set afoot and well documented. That is what counts because most of us, including your friend and Yours Truly, would only want to have genuine hits.

Why don't you (the moderators) delete the second entry?
