Do you mean making a similar animated map?

You first need an image editing program. A good one is gimp. It's about as good as Paint Shop Pro but completely free.
Make each frame of the image its own layer.
So, first you'll have a layer with no dots on it.
Then you'll have the layer with the first dots added.
And then an layer with the next dots added.
And so on, until all dots are there.

Then turn the picture into an animation. I think you'll have to use some filter for that. Save the image as .gif or .mng .
After that you need to work as with submitting any avatar.

or you take your csv (censored is enough), your dotmap (for the colors, not needed in final) and give them to somebody with a script. the script builds up the complete animation in a few seconds.

to get it into the avatar, you need still a graphic programm, which cuts the animated gif to the right size (i prefer paint shop pro/animation shop pro, but that is payware)

after that: upload and enjoy

the option described by gauss is still available.

you can send me your censored(!) csv together with the link to your dotmap (for the dotcolors otherwise all dots are blue) to my email-adress ernie_hh (at) gmx.de. I will put the animated dotmap on my server and send you the url back.

the animated dotmap will be the same size as the europe-dotmap. so you cant use it as a avatar out of the box.

there will be a webbased solution shortly (upload the csv over a webformular and get the animated dotmap directly back)

The old version was from december 2007. In 2008 i made a journey to Austria, Italy, San Marino and Slovenia and that can be seen on the new map.

I did that as well with my map.

But in my case it was much easier: I have 20 dots or so

I used Photoshop to perform that file, but you can use any other movie-maker or photo-editor (as soon as it is a little bit more complex than 'Paint' )
