Russia in EU?

vinom
YES
Of course Russia belongs to Europe. As Turkey does!
Europe is not an geographical entity. Europe is a state of mind. Europe is the answer to the USA and to China.
Europe is the fastest growing state in human history since the empire of Alexader the great. And Europe will only stop growing, when there is no other state on this planet.
Of course Turkey will only enter the EU in 2017 and only AFTER a referendum in the EU and in Turkey. Everything else is not demokratic and therefor not european.
But decent and wise Politicians will explain to Europe and to Turkey in the next 12 years, why this is a good moove.
Russia will enter the EU much later. But it finaly will. Maybe not as one memberstate but as a dozen, but it will.

Generally, I like the union to expand (if the necessary points are fullfilled and the people of course stay behind that idea) but the full integration of a country that leads from the baltic sea to the japanese border and covers 1/6 of our planet cannot beeing handled without turning europe into "Great Russia" or reducing the russian people to "2nd grade EU-citizens" just due to their "overweight".
Maybe it could be an option for Russia to join the EU with the Königsberg/Kaliningrad territority which is already surrounded by EU-states and lost of it's former strategic and military importance due to the end of the cold war.
This region (which has a special meaning for me because my family originaly comes from) could become some kind of free-trade bridge which would allow Russia to participate in the common market and also would bring an econommic push into this, actually very poor and isolated, territory.

Yes, regarding the vast land area. But Russia's population (about 143 million) is less than one third of that of the EU at the moment (460 million). Russia's population is actually "only" 1.7 times the population of the largest EU member, Germany.
On the other hand, the population is of course not all that counts. Russia's natural resources are huge.
