What's the best song this year? I like the song of Andorra very much, Netherlands is just like an Arabic song (boring) and we all know that all East-European countries are giving the points to each other ;)

It's a National Hobby here.

A particular one this year is the Irish song, sung by Dustin the turkey.

Teräsbetoni

I think the songs of most countries aren't a real representation of what people really like here..that makes it stupid. Almost no-one listens to Hind here.
I'd really like to see Die Ärzte as German representant, Anouk, Marco Borsato, Jan Smit or The Partysquad (and no, this is not my favourite music, though it ís the mainstream dutch music here) as Dutch representant, El Canto Del Loco as the Spanish representant, Mixalis Xatzigiannis as the Greek representant and so on...

I really think Teräsbetoni is the only real group/singer that is representative for it's country.
And besides Teräsbetoni is not my kind of music either, but I like it way more than all those other crap that the song festival is.

You do know that Teräsbetoni is a parody of the genre, don't you? :)

what I find stupid is that so many countries make new versions of their songs for the contest that sound (completely) different, or that they will sing in a different language than how they won the national contest.
Hungary has a Hungarian version but they will sing in English (now actually with 15 seconds Hungarian)
Macedonia has a Macedonian version (I like it) but they will sing in boring English
Albania had a really nice song but in the contest they will perform a really strange new version with a stupid rhythm
Some countries first published only a long version of their song that is over 3 minutes, and for the contest they now need a shortened version

and like in the years before, you can listen to the songs here
http://www.allkindsofeverything.ie/Belgrade08.htm
(with the new versions of Netherlands, Israel, Spain and San Marino and the old versions of Albania, Czechia and Hungary)

and read the lyrics here
http://www.diggiloo.net/?2008

here you can read news about new versions of the songs, and you can download them if you have much time to wait (and pass the hard intelligence test) or you want to pay the download site to make it faster

And the Finns have sent the parody band Teräsbetoni ("Reinforced Concrete"). "Wherever the men are riding, the sheep won't be able to eat grass" \o/
I bet the parody won't be understood. But then again, you usually win if you manage to make lyrics stupid enough. So, people will think the band's really what it's playing and it will win. ;)

I have understud it so that Teräsbetoni is not a parody/humour band. They are playing their music with all their heart and soul. I think 3 full length albums are some kind of sign of that. That doesn't mean that it isn't funny though

Just read their blog some day :D
Or listen to their lyrics. This Eurovision song is quite mild, but especially their first ones are just hilarious.

They are indeed playing the music because they like it. They know how ridiculous the pantyhose metal is, but they still like playing it. And to avoid looking like idiots, they have decided to go through the way of excess. They are purposely fulfilling all the stereotypes of that music style.

Once again, read their blog. It's actually quite well written and funny :)
Disclaimer: I read the blog some year ago. Things might have changed and the blog might not exist anymore.
