Summer-EBTM 2012 in Munich: General Information

Post by roberdy »

Hi everybody,

Euro~Bräu, MasterZocker, MuenzMuc and me are proud to welcome you to the Summer EBTM 2012 in Munich, taking place on 17 to 19 August 2012. :D

In this post, you will find the schedule (and updates).

Plans until now are:

Friday 17 August 2012:

13:30: Meeting at the Conrad Hotel, Schillerstr.10, next to the Hauptbahnhof/Main railway station, that's MasterZockers hotel.

14:30: We start from there to a sightseeing tour in a circle around the old town through Munich by foot. Places we pass will be e.g. Sendlinger Tor, Rindermarkt, Viktualienmarkt, Marienplatz, Odeonsplatz, Promenadeplatz.

Around 17:00 to 17:30: Back to the CONRAD-Hotel, there will be a presentation about counterfeit money by an assistant of the Deutsche Bundesbank
After that, walk via Stachus and Marienplatz to the Hofbräuhaus

19:30: Dinner at the famous Hofbräuhaus (we reserved a special room)

Saturday 18 August 2012:

8:30: Meeting opposite to the Hauptbahnhof, at the corner Bahnhofplatz/Schützenstr., right to Postbank

8:50: Double-decker bus tour through Munich. Starting punctually at 9:00, duration around 1,5h. We have the possibility to step off the bus 1 time for around 20 minutes. Price will be 14 EUR, but we’re still working on a discount.

After that, we head through Arnulfstr. to track 33 of Hauptbahnhof / central station to enter the train torwards Tegernsee.

11:00: Departure by train to the Tegernsee lake (day-ticket 25 EUR for 5 persons, so you should build groups )

We sell inside the train a little snack and some drinks at our prime costs, because there is very few time for you to serve you on your own (Munich central station is expensive, in Gmund we must walk directly to the boat and in Bad Wiessee there’s not really a shop around where you can buy at economic prices)

12:03: Arrival at Gmund. After that a 20mins walk through Gmund to the landing place of the boat.
12:55: Start with the boat trip. Price for the day ticket is 11,70 EUR.
13:20 – 14:50: Stop in Bad Wiessee
15:15 – 16:45: Stop in Rottach-Egern
17:00: Arrival in the town Tegernsee. We have another 15 mins walk to the Bräustüberl Tegernsee
from 18:00: Dinner at Bräustüberl Tegernsee

after that going back to Munich by train. (hourly, last departure 22:57, duration 1 hour)

Sunday 19 August 2012:

10:00 - 12:00: Association Meeting at CONRAD-Hotel in the Munich city centre

after that: Visit of a beer garden. Probably at good weather at the Augustiner Biergarten (Arnulfstr.), at bad weather at the Löwenbräukeller (Stiglmaierplatz). To both places a short walk around 15-20mins from the hotel.

This post will be kept updated from time to time, when we can provide more detailed information.

In this post you will get some useful information about travelling to and inside Munich shortly.

As already mentioned, there will be an interruption to the S-Bahn trains through the inner city tunnel between Main railway station (Hauptbahnhof) and East railway station (Ostbahnhof) - but ONLY from Friday 19:30h to Monday 4h in the morning.
Friday up to 19:30: normal schedules.

Friday from 19:30h on and the whole Saturday and Sunday:
Most S-Bahn trains from the East (S2 from Erding, S3 from Holzkirchen, S4 from Ebersberg, S7 from Kreuzstraße and S8 from Munich Airport) will terminate in Munich East station (Ostbahnhof - München Ost).
Only S8 from Munich Airport won't terminate at Munich East, it will continue from there without any stop to München-Pasing (in the west of the city) and from there on its normal way to Herrsching.
If your hotel is situated at these S-Bahn lines in the eastern Munich surroundings, go to Munich East station and change there for U-Bahn U5 line (direction Laimer Platz). U5 will run every 5 minutes, and takes you in 10mins to the Hauptbahnhof / main railway station.

S-Bahn trains from the West will terminate either at Munich central station inside the surface hall (S1 from Freising, S1 from Munich Airport, S2 from Petershausen, S6 from Tutzing, S7 from Wolfratshausen) or terminate in München-Pasing (S3 from Mammendorf, S4 from Geltendorf) with connection to S6 to central station. Same connection advised if you arrive by S8 from Herrsching (S8 will continue from München-Pasing without any stop to Munich East, and after that normal way to Munich Airport).
The S-Bahn stops Laim, Hirschgarten and Hackerbrücke can't be served. At Donnersbergerbrücke only S7 and the BOB trains stop.

U-Bahn ist not affected. U5 will run these days every 5 minutes (instead of every 10 minutes)

Tramway, Bus is not affected.

Regional trains (RE, RB, BOB, ALX) are not affected.

Long distance trains are not affected.

from Monday on - normal schedules.

If you are worried about your connection to the airport (ONLY Friday 19:30h to Sunday evening) - either use S1 (every 20 minutes)from Munich main railway station / Hauptbahnhof - track 26 at the right end of the main surface hall, or go by U5 to Munich East station and go there to track 7 and use S8 (also every 20 minutes).

When you make your acommodation plans, please note that the S-Bahn (commuter railway) won't run through the Munich city centre at that weekend... so avoid hotels/acommodation which is near to only-S-Bahn stops like Hackerbrücke, Isartor or Rosenheimer Platz because you can get trouble to go fast from there through the city ;)
U-Bahn will be not affected.

U-Bahn will be not affected.
In hindsight, wouldn't the other weekend be the better choice then? And how does one travel from the airport to the city without S-Bahn? Taxi?

If had known this, I would have voted for the second date too. 17-19 august is the last weekend of these closures. See newspaper article.

S-Bahn from München Flughafen wil run to München-Ost (S8) or München Hbf (S1). There are no S-Bahns on the "Stammstrecke" between Pasing and Ost.

S-Bahn is closed only from Friday after 19:45h. Nevertheless you won't have problems to go where you want to, as long it is reachable by U-Bahn with a connection at Munich East or Munich central station.
The only thing is, perhaps avoid acommodation which is advertised with a (on other times) fast S-Bahn connection near these stations.
Hackerbrücke, Isartor or Rosenheimer Platz
Update: here you can see the reduced network in the Munich city centre from Friday 19:45h on: http://www.tegernsee-magazin.de/wp-cont ... hnnetz.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Afternoon: We're working at the moment on something special (perhaps money-related)... :)
(Unfortunately we can give no promise if it works  )
Wouldn't it be cool if you could pull off a visit to the Prinzregentenstraße

As I saw here, I have one question:
- during the weekend, specially Sunday, 19th Aug, there will be S1 or S8 for the Munich Airport or not?

S1 will depart every 20mins from Munich Central station (München Hbf / Hauptbahnhof) (probably surface hall - tracks 24-36 - connection to U1/U2/U4/U5),
S8 will depart every 20mins from Munich East station (München Ost / Ostbahnhof) (probably track 11 - connection to U5).

Will the boat trip on Saturday be a round trip or will we leave the boat at a place different from where we started?

It is planned that we start the boat trip at Gmund, and last destination will be Tegernsee (town).

Do you want to go there by car? Maybe you can enter the boat at Tegernsee (with the same ticket) and meet us at Gmund. Tickets are valid for a round trip, but with a maximum of 2 breaks.
