Restaurants II: Tips

Unlike in other countries, there is no obligation to give tips to the restaurant staff. In every drink and meal, a share for their salary is already included / calculated.

However, as they definitely do not get rich with their salaries for a sometimes stressful job, a tip is always welcome. The least you can do: Add the sum up to the next Euro-value; e.g. EUR 12,40, make it 13 EUR. If you pay with three :note-5: you may say "Make it thirteen" and they will know what you mean.

Angelina and me, we give around 10% of the sum if they are good and friendly, and at least in our preferred restaurants, they usually are.

So, choice is up to you - a tip is always welcome but you are not obliged to give one.

Tracking in Frankfurt

Participants of the ECB-visit on April 27th 2007 will be heavily disappointed: The "Frankfurter Sparkasse von 1822", the bank with the highest number of branches in Frankfurt, has ceased exchanging bills. I have tried several times, and they keep on telling me that you need an account with them. Otherwise impossible.

Banks which are more promissing are
- Frankfurter Volksbank
- Hypo Vereinsbank
- Commerzbank
- NASPA

One branch of NASPA is right at the entrance to Kaiserstraße, opposite the main entrance of central railway station where we meet and close to the hostel where some of you will stay. So, moderators may already prepare for an extra shift to moderate all the "uninteresting" hits...

At the train station, you might get rid of your smaller denominations at the "Reisebank" at the southern exit. Be prepared, however, that they refuse or demand a charge. Sometimes they are in need for :note-5: and :note-10: . Try your luck.

Weather forecasts

We have been watching the forecasts / speculations for a few days. Now with the approaching of the week-end I dare to give a forecast, based on the data obtained from different German sites, information from Finland about Frankfurt and the announcements in the local radio FFH.

Generally for the meeting-weekend: :D :D

But tears come first.

Thursday, 26th of April:
Rainy, cloudy, up to 15°C. Arrivers for thursday: Comfort yourself, it can only get better.

Friday, 27th of April:
Mix of clouds and sunshine. Maybe some rain in the evening, up to 21°C

Saturday, 28th of April
Mainly sunny, no rain, up to 25°C

Sunday, 29th of April
Might be a bit cloudier than saturday, still sunny, up to 25°C

As weather forecasts generally have it, there is no guarantee. Forecasts ranging further than three days ahead are quite speculative.

Follow-up 1 p.m.: Radio weather forecasts keep on pointing at the up to 25°C this week-end.

All in all: We may expect rather fine weather particularly for the week-end, but bring a sweater or coat and an umbrella with you.

Train tickets Frankfurt - Flörsheim

Attention: Rewritten due to mistakes in the previous text!

Save your time and energy and see to get you a group day ticket "Gruppentageskarte). With this you may use public transport around Frankfurt the whole day. However, make sure that Flörsheim - code 6673 - is included! Otherwise it does not help you.

The price for the Gruppentageskarte including Flörsheim costs 14,90 altogether; that is three Euro per person compared to at least 8,20 EUR for the single trips. The Gruppentageskarte is already of worth if only two people share the cost.

There are no names linked to the card. So, you do not cling to the group you have shared cost with. For example, if you wish to stay longer in Flörsheim than your "Ticket Mates", then you may find another group with at least one drop-out, too, wants to leave earlier.

Try and get your ticket at the railway station or any kiosk with the RMV-logo. In the morning, please observe that the tram is scheduled for punctual departure at 10.15. a.m. so please see to it that you are either done with it at 10.10 a.m. You may also try after the tour or in the afternoon before we leave to Flörsheim. We only wish to avoid that we may leave half an hour or even one hour later as getting tickets for some 70 people will take time!

Other passengers or in any case WE should be glad to help you handling these automats.

Better see to have some Euros in coins with you as sometimes, when the coin box is emtpying, the automats deny bills.

And as a last contribution to a great week-end gone by with you: Have it today from the newspaper that saturday was indeed the warmest saturday in a month of April ever since the temperatures are recorded in Germany, and this is since the 1860s.

Grazie, and even better: They had left it for the EBTM-weekend. This week-end, however, is grey, cool and one hour ago we have had very heavy rainfalls in Wiesbaden. (La pioggia battente). Good day to be at home and to arrange things inside.

We really were lucky. :-) Such a nice weather. It is nice to remember the summer temperatures when it snowed 10 cm of new snow last night here in Lapland. Image

@ airis: Very nice picture!

As Asiamaniac already wrote - this weekend we´ve got quite lower temperatures and lots of rain.

But my grandmom used to say: "When angels are travelling the sun is shninig" - and so it was last weekend.

It was still sunny in Wiesbaden last Tuesday. ;)

Here, we are in dire need to take out our Summer clothes!

Hi Airis, brrrrrrrr, fresh snow in May... But it is nice to see your print award from EBTM in the picture.

And Ewri, you are the counterpoint. Here, we see no need yet to get out our summer clothing. But it is progressing. :D
