Hello! as you can see in many places in the web (such as wikipedia or many €uro's web pages (unofficial and also oficial web-pages)) there's going to be issued the FIRST french 2€ commemorative coin in March.

We're allready in March... has anyone seen it? Has anyone more information about it? the day in which it will be released into circulation?

Thanks in advance! :D

French coin designs since the second world war have been so completely unimaginative.

Hello all,

I definitly agree with you. I am french and this coin is quite a shame for us. It is really ugly. There are so many symbols possible to represent the republic. :?
Furthermore, when you see what the national coin maker ( monnaie de Paris http://www.monnaiedeparis.com/ ) is able to do for special coin ( 5, 10 20 euros ), i can't understand the actual choice.
I hope the next one will be very nice.
And as i am living in czech republic, i hope also they will decide soon something about the euros, i am fed up to wait :D

Seems that this French €2 coin is now scheduled for early October. And yes, the design leaves quite a bit to be desired. But the MdP has actually issued quite a few nice pieces - and I am not talking about the plethora of overpriced collector coins here. I have always liked the 20F coin issued in the 1990s featuring the Mont-St-Michel. And several circulating commems, such as the Millénaire Capétien (10F) or the Jean Moulin (2F) piece, are neat in my opinion.

Well, you will have to make a decision, I think. Either the Czech Republic, or the euro.

Isn't CZ trying to join the Euro ASAP? I've understood them being so late has more to do with the economical situation than with actual politics.(?)

Hard to tell; the country sure has an extremely "euroskeptical" president. And in a recent article about the euro introduction in neighboring Slovakia, there was also this: "(...) constant postponements of the planned date for euro adoption in the Czech Republic are caused by the fact that political consensus on euro adoption has never existed there. Czech central bank governor Zdenek Tuma recently agreed with this opinion (...)"
http://www.sktoday.com/content/1147_eur ... -countries

Seems it's not economic issues alone that keep CZ outside ...

Yes, you mentioned that before. And no, as I wrote in my reply to Jes, in my opinion there have been some nice designs in the 1980s, 90s, etc. even for circulation coins and circulating commems.
