Wonder if that's because of the coldness of Canada? Could be, because also the cooold Finland is at least in the top3 in European plastic payers. Probably in top1 :))eurobillsandcoins wrote:canada uses debit the most in the world. I always used debit card, I never had more than $20 in my wallet. In europe I like spending cash. :)

Re: question for all Europeans
Here in Belgium we only can get bills of 20€ and 50€ out of the wall at our bank.
How is that in other countries? Is that the same?
That's what I've understood as well, that there should only be 20 and 50 euro notes inside the ATMs. However, a while ago I was browsing the list and saw some notes of a Belgian user who claimed (s)he had taken some 5 euro notes out of an ATM. Could be that (s)he just wouldn't bother changing the comment field even though the notes were from another source, or maybe there ARE some ATMs which distribute smaller notes.

Most Dutch ATM's dispend only €10, €20 and €50 notes. I know 2 ATM's
(both from the Rabobank) which also dispend €5 notes and I know 1 ATM
(also from the Rabobank) which also dispends €100 notes. When I with-
drew €200 from the last ATM I thought
HUH???!!!
when it gave me
2 €100 notes instead of 4 €50 notes. I always thought €50 was the maxi-
mum value in an ATM. I still have those €100 notes, and I don't know
where to spend them without being asocial to the man/woman behind the
counter, because I hardly buy something worth more than €5.

I've never heard about a service like this! Here in the Netherlands it doesn't exist, for I know...Donald wrote:My bank has now some ATMs which swallow money and put it onto my account. This was quite helpful when I got two 500 € bills for my car wreck. Doesn't Rabobank provide this service? They are striving to become one of the 5 best banking companies in Europe.
Really? I'm quite amazed. In Portugal, this is possible for quite some time (=years) in just about any bank... I can deposit money anytime I want, day or night (unless the machine runs out of envelopes...)Thomas B wrote: I've never heard about a service like this! Well, in Portugal it's the shops that are charged for using automatic payment methods, so the consumer never pays more if they'd like to use plastic (only for debit: credit cards work the same way as they do in any other country). Debit cards tend to be used A LOT around here for that reason. I don't use them as much anymore, though, due to my tracking habits, but I still use them for large purchases, gasoline, or when I simply get caught without enough money...Dakkus wrote:Finland is at least in the top3 in European plastic payers. The Rabobank provides this service, just like ABN-Amro.Donald wrote:My bank has now some ATMs which swallow money and put it onto my account. In Portugal we have a good ATM service, we can do several things like pay the bills, buy a ticket to a show, etc. And you a have a machine in every corner (I'm increasing a little).BogPoet wrote: Really? Last week I went to Czech Republic, and there this is very different... I think I crossed half Prague looking for an ATM, it was hard to find it.
Btw the 1st machine I found was "out of service"

I also saw an atm with €100 notes here in the Netherlands.Vengaboys wrote:There are banks in The Netherlands that give 5, 10, 20 and 50. And... you can even choose your notes. It differs from bank to bank. Every second day I get eight five-Euro-notes from the wall. (My selection) Once or twice a week I exchange them in bigger notes and do my shopping. However, I pay small amounts with big notes in supermarkets and department stores only in order to save small-scale-retailers or my canteen in industrial estate Wallau from problems. But there are also banks where you have no choice: When you command them to get 40 Euro you will get two 20-notes automatically.
