Dutch is my birth language. My spoken French is quite good apart from the accent, but spelling is something else. English is quite good both written and spoken. And I can understand basic German.

The search function goes only back 6 months. In most cases 6 months will do, but there are some topics that get reactivated after a very long times.

German: Mothertongue.

English: 9 years in school. The only foreign language I can really handle (more or less). Reading and writing works better for me than speaking and listening. I have about 500 English books at home.

Latin: 5 years in school. It still helps me to understand a bit Italian, Spanish, Portuguese etc.

French: 1 year in school.

Dutch: Can partly understand written Dutch due to its similarity with German.

Learned in vacations: Few words Spanish, Italian, Indonesian, Danish etc.

Foreign characters: I can handle Greek characters, but Russian, Japanese katakana, and Thai I once learned but forgot for the most part.

Fun! :)

My languages:

Dutch: Mothertongue
English: Good.
German: Better speaking than writing, but enough to make myself clear.
French: I can read it quite good, but to write is more difficult. Speaking and listening are bad.
Spanish: Few vacation words.

I study English and French at the university, but, even though I'll begin 3rd level in mid-October, my French is still quite bad nonetheless... :? Portuguese is mother tongue and I can mumble half a dozen of phrases in German (had one level on a private language school, but that was five years ago).

And no, I don't understand Woman at all...

And I will include the Asian circle (mark my nickname). My languages in order of mastering:
German: Native Tongue --
English: At school, during apprenticeship and at university. Now it it my working language at work as export assistant. --
Indonesian: University and frequent trips and stays to that country
Malaysian: Quite the equivalent to Indonesian. --
French: Mainly book knowledge; never really been to our neighbour. --
Italian: Taught it myself and improved during many trips. --
Thai: Some semesters at university and five trips. And I go much more for Asian than German ladies...

I'm translator Dutch, French and German, so normally I have to speak and to write those languages almost perfectly.
My knowledge of the English language is rather limited. I can help myself with the stuff I learnt at high school.
I know a few words Italian too.

Yes, let alone hundreds in Indonesia. Indonesian (Bahasa Indonesia) respectively Malaysian (Bahasa Malaysia) are the official languages. I only talk about those.
