I think that Kraan's procedure is indeed a little overstepping the mark. However, if he was indeed in those places and obtained those notes in each of those places, as it seems to be the case, I wouldn't delete the notes if I were in the Cleaning Brigade. (Btw, I always dislike the sexism of "Cleaning Ladies", in spite of understanding its humor).

A similar thing without the explicit intention of conquering any dots or whatever occurred to me some two years ago on a travel with friends. My friends carried euro banknotes with them. I don't usually bother people to lend me their banknotes in order to take notice of serial numbers but I'm glad to exchange the bills they use to pay expenses with other bills I carry and are already registered on EBT. Because I was travelling with friends and at least one of them carried consecutive serials, I believe I may have tracked consecutive serials in two different towns that way. In fact, this arguably changes less the normal course of the notes than tracking them all on a single place and returning them to their owners.

All notes were entered by phone strictly in places, where I got the notes. You can even check the time difference between different locations.
I think this is not the way to collect new dots.
It's not the most pretty, indeed, but as far as I know, it's not against the rules, either. So I would let them be, as well.

Yes, it is!
So my girl-friend can take a hunderd of :note-5: in the Netherlands. We travel to (example) :flag-it: or :flag-gr: and she gives me in every dot a :note-5: and we habe all new dots. That is not the way to be happy of it.

I agree. But it's mainly the actor who should feel slightly embarrassed, not the cleaning ladies for leaving the entries untouched.

Maybe the rules are not adequate to define the spirit of the game.

Maybe some more rules or more precise rules could help to avoid, if not all, at least a part of bad behaviours.

That is indeed the problem with the difference between the letter of the rules and their spirit. And let it be very clear that I wouldn't feel myself happy with such behaviour.

Kraan wrote: I noticed your remark about my small Latvian trip in the EBT forum and I agree – my actions seem to be strange or even suspicious. But let me clear this out. I had a small road trip with my friend (who is not an EBT user) in the northern part of Latvia and I had the intention to collect some new dots as well. But unfortunately it’s almost impossible to change some euro notes in these small places at weekends . My friend offered, that he gives me some brand new 5 euro notes, if I wanted them. I thought about it and decided, that this tracking style is not brilliant, but on the other hand it is not against rules.

I know, the rules are the rules, but this is not a very elegant way to have dots  , it's a bit like the one who register notes from all over the world because the one who gives him/her the bills says that they come from X, Y or Z : it's allowed but not very elegant (and anyway, not to be proud of!!!)

I'd really prefer that people stop crucifying the user, who has given an honest explanation about how he considered that in spite of not finding this "tracking style […] brilliant" it wasn't against the rules.

And it is not against the rules, indeed. Arguably not even their spirit. EBT wants banknotes to be tracked where they are (not where someone told you they have been), by trackers who hold them in their hands. That's the whole purpose of the site.

On the other hand, registering notes in place X because someone told you they came from there is totally against the rules let alone the spirit of EBT. It is not "allowed". At all.

In the meantime, many people use EBT to do their own games, like dot-hunting. I do it too. Kraan's "tracking style" might not be elegant for dot-hunting purposes but then again, a lot of people track notes that are in the wallets of friends and were not involved in any transaction on the location they're tracked. Why is this so different?
