Hm, this needs to be user-selectable in case someone doesn't want his/her hits or maps to be shown. There's a reason for the "check" parameter in the maps..Nerzhul wrote:A minor feature I've been playing with in my mind. Money makes the world go round. We track how the money goes round the world.
It was a suggestion earlier in this topic.Nerzhul wrote: 8 : I don't quite understand what exactly you mean by that![]()
Someone asked for e second comment box while entering notes , perhaps also to put in (afterwards) where the note has been spent.
Or to put in a another comment..
Nice to hear this !Nerzhul wrote: As for other matters, I'm going to announce minor changes / features in this thread in the future. Feel free to criticize them![]()
A map with dots where my referrers are would be nice too
Thnx for giving us so much detailed info Nerzhul !
This sound very OK ; so you can choose yourselves !avij wrote: Hm, this needs to be user-selectable

From what I understand, zoomable maps shouldn't be that much of a hassle. Of course it can be made a nifty flash-thingie, but it can also be done by just using imagemaps. Just don't do the common mistake of not letting the maps you get by clicking the imagemap overlap.Nerzhul wrote:some are just a hell lot of work (zoomable maps).
The system can also be made multilevel, so that the user could first click Canada on the world map, then Quebec on the Canadian map, thus getting the map of Quebec.
Anyway, you just need to have an image map, clicking on which would show another map below the map where the clicking happened. Or maybe in a popup window.
The hardest thing is making the area-specific maps, because in those maps the borders have to be more specific than in the ones we've got now.
However, that can be easily corrected by the users theirselves. Just like was done with the map of Europe, remember?
First let each area have a map composed of the coordinates we've got now and if the users find mistakes, just edit the small parts of the map. Believe me, the EBT users will 100% surely tell you of any small mistake they find on such maps, so fixing them isn't such a huge thing.
So, for now we could get the thing working for Europe with a rather small amount of work. You only need to combine the line-coordinates from the borderlines of the different European countries, set the corner coordinates of each map and replot the border line with the old coordinates but with a better resolution. It's a work of 30min-1h, I suppose.
After doing the first phase, the different cities can be marked on the map according to how many notes have been entered in each. You can for example print nice dots in the coordinates of the 5 (or 10) most active EBT towns and write the names of the cities next to those dots. Should work well enough. And naturally some users could be given a right to combine different cities to one dot, so that for example Helsinki, Espoo and Vantaa wouldn't consume 3/5 of Finland's dots, looking like a big mess with three overlapping city names but would be just one dot, instead.

Like everything else on FVS' list?giberski wrote: Like what?
I simply wanted to point out that not all EBT users think that zoomable maps would be the best thing since sliced bread. Personally I think that the maps that are currently in EBT are absolutely sufficient. I don't have this 'Dot-fetish', e.g. this aspect is not that important to me as it may be to others. Furthermore even on my little map that contains 9 dots so far, it becomes obvious that the dots are everything else than on the exact spot, I would say the tolerance is something between 10 and 20 km (at least here in Berlin) So what would be the effect of having maps with a larger scale (From his posting I got the impression that Dakkus fancies a city map)? Having a lot of dots in the wrong position, and I think that is what would cause the work in the end.

It's my first post on this topic. I have always hesitated to make any comment, as I feel so impressed by the amount of work done by Giro, Avij and now Nerzhul...
This is why I first want to send a "thank You so Much For Your Work !" to these persons.
It's quite "busy" at work today, so that I found the time to read through the 16 pages of topic
: Now I am confident I will not repeat things that have been discussed previously.
So I have so suggestions to make :
1. When bills are entered ; it would be nice for everyone to see who has entered the bill ; you can see it once you have clicked on the bill ; but I would prefer to see it immediately ; this would save me a lot of time ; as I have taken the habit to "spot" for EBTers... This could be solved by adding one column ?
2. I have seen topics concerning the limit of 330 users that can be seen on the international ranking. Is there any reason for this limit ?
From a personal point of view I am ranked 11th on French level ; but 580th on International level. My next target (number 10 on the French ranking) is 600 notes away from me (I have 2240 notes)... This is a long way alone...
If I would be able to see who is "surrounding" me at the international ranking, this would certainly increase my motivation.
3. There should be a email address specifically dedicated to journalists and media ; these emails would be forwarded to EBT'ers volunteering for press contacts (I am volunteering !!!). The email address should also work the other way round : when a EBTer responsible for media has a press release he could use this email address to send the document to selected journalists. For the moment, I have built a database of +/- 280 French journalists on my personal email. When I have something to send them, I use my personal address. It would be more effective, if it could come from "media@eurobilltracker.com"
Is this point clear ?
This was my contribution for today...

Yes, it would be nice if a user could see the 5 users above him and the other 5 below him even if he isn't on the top330. Shouldn't be too database-intensive, I think. That could let the users battle with all users and not only the domestic ones.Phaseolus wrote: 2. I have seen topics concerning the limit of 330 users that can be seen on the international ranking. Would it be possible to allow people to jump from page 1 to page 9 in the ranking.
Because if you are number 329 in the national ranking, you need to click 9 or 10 times before you can get on "your" sheet .

You can edit the address on the address bar of your web browser. There's something like cursor=1 when you've clicked the "next" button once. Just change that to cursor=10 and you're on page 11.Phaseolus wrote:And, by the way...

(By the way, I'm pretty sure that's why EBT has everything limited to 330. The coders have forgotten that the first page is number 0 and so 1 means the second page and 10 the eleventh :D
