same here, we never go to a hamburger place when we're abroad. We pick a restaurant at random and see what it brings us. Sometimes it's great, sometimes it's not so great. But allways it's different from what we eat at home. That's the whole idea of going somewhere isn't it Doing and seeing things that are different from home.

I agree, it would be waste of money to travel abroad if everything was the same as in your home country.

Yes, also I like tasting of local food but sometimes it's not so easy. I'm allergic to most of sea food and if I don't understand what the menu says it's not so good.

If I'm not interested in experiencing a great gastronomic pleasure but getting some fuel I sometimes visit in a burger place also abroad.

But always when I'm abroad I want to have local beer. Even in Sweden and also if I ever travel to USA.

That's also my definition of traveling. Exploring the inner logic of other cultures is challenge and satisfaction at the same time.

Well, even this afternoon, I would not avoid to see obese people. It has just become amazing!

People cannot everywhere be as handsome as in Paris! But from my trips to Canada and US I know they compensate it with friendliness.

Oh, of course! I will never say people are bad or unpleasant!! I live in this place! It's just I am very afraid about obesity, which has become a huge problem of public health. I can't resign myself to see young people suffer from diabete just because they have never been taught how to eat properly.
Moderation and variety are the keys from a good nutrition, on my opinion.

I know what you mean. There's a lot of processed food in North America. When I wanted to buy a bread in a supermarket in Canada I studied the lists of ingredients on all those brands of bread. I couldn't find one with less than 30 ingredients while bread actually only needs three (flour, water, and something like yeast).

On the other hand, they are absolutely exemplary in North America with their avoidance of smoking. And I hope they are on the way to become more nutrition conscious.

I prefer the Dutch snackbars far more as McDonalds.

Could you please inform us, what kind of menu is available there?

Dutch snackbars serve mainly deepfried snacks:

Patat (french fries) with mayonaise
Frikadel (meatroll)
Kroket (smooth meatmass in a crust)
and many more meat of all kinds deepfried
furthermore there are some mayonaise-based salads (huzarensalade)

My personal choice is also to go more to a dutch snackbar.
McDonalds is less than a month for me
Burger King the same but they have better burgers than McD.
Chinese food is very good too but we dont come there too often either
The best is still homecooked food and thats about 95% of my food!

When i was in Indonesia with friends a few years ago we went to a McDonalds to taste the difference but it was neglectible.

For tobacco, I agree with you! It's very pleasant, here, for the non smoking areas everywhere. I wish it could be the same in Europe, especially in airport Charles-de-Gaulle, in the morning, after 7 hours by plane and 6 hours of jet lag.

When I had to spend 7 hours wandering around CDG, on November, I could only smoke in the bar. But then again, I couldn't leave the terminal I was in, so I don't know how it was in the public areas...

Each time I go there, I see people smoking at the bagage claim... In Montreal, that would be impossible.

You've got to try Bud Light... It's good. Tastes really different than Budweiser. Budweiser is just like drinking your pee that has been flavored. I've tasted some real good beers in Greece and the UK. In Greece Amstel Beer was my favorite, and in the UK I liked to drink Stella Artois and Carling. You can get Stella Artois in some pubs here. BTW. does anyone know how "Artois" should be pronounced, in English? I don't think they'd dare to pronounce it like "Artwaa", that would sound too posh.

Yes that is quite true. I think the schools there have really strict non-smoking policies, whereas in Finland a lot of people "learn" to smoke in school when a lot of people do it too. Here the teachers just close their eyes at the situation and direct people to smoke outside the school premises.
