It sounds hard to pronounce for a poor latin...
If you want to hear how Finnish text is being pronounced you can use http://www.mikropuhe.com/demo.asp :) Just type/copy the text and press the "kuuntele puhe" -button.
It speaks Finnish very well. :)
I did copy and paste some French, English, Dutch and Italian text. The result

By the way... where does it come from? Is it tricolore because of France and have the colours been chosen because of Germany?

The cross was chosen, because it was in the flags of the other northern European countries (Sweden, Norway, Denmark). White is for snow and blue is for lakes. Or they are also the colours of the sky, but I think it was snow and lakes.

The problem is the weird spelling in those languages  . Paste this text to the application and it's perfect English: helou ool juoroubillträköös, kiip on träking tem juorous.

(Or at least Finglish.)

From my history lessons I remember red stood for blood. But somewhere on the internet I found this:
http://www.crwflags.com/fotw/flags/be.html wrote: The colours were taken from the flag of Brabant, a province in the Low Countries (the Netherlands + Belgium ), which extended from Walloon province Walloon Brabant, over Flemish Brabant (and Brussels) and Antwerpen in Flanders, and in the Netherlands the province of North-Brabant. The flag of Brabant was a golden (yellow) lion climbing the hoist, on a black surface, and its tongue and nails were red. Its heraldic description is:
Sable, a Lion Rampant Or, Nails and Tongue Gules.
This lion features on the arms of the Belgian kingdom, and several arms of the provinces, like Walloon Brabant (Brabant wallon), Flemish Brabant (Vlaams-Brabant), and the Dutch province North-Brabant (Noord-Brabant).

Probably, the vertical ordering of the colours in vertical bands was based on the French flag, since the colours of the Dutch flags were ordered in horizontal bands, and the founding of Belgium was actually a separation from the Netherlands.

that wouldn't be fun.. EU would win like at least half of the medals...

as to this topic, that for some wird reason I only saw today, I must say I like every flag of European Union, I think they're all elegant, and I also like the EU flag.. and the German is one of my favorites, but it looks like it has many opponents.. as to the portuguese flag you have to be carefull because many times it's incomplet, like when there's some soccer match, on tv sometimes they put like an orange point in the midle or nothing at all.. but I must say that our monarchic flag was nicer, white and clear blue, like Finland and Greece..

any way, I voted for Ireland because I don't like the orange very much...

as to my other favorite flags, I like Canada, Norway and Iceland, Latvia, South Africa, Brazil, Israel, Japan, ex-URSS, USA, the new East-Timor flag and many others..

no it wouldn't, there wouldn't be any competition.. it could be fun for a while, but.. only 5 minutes, then it would be boring...

even UK has 4 different soccer teams.. europeans would never accept that..

look to Spain where lots of people wants a delegation to Catalunya, Basque Country, Galicia..

now days there's few opportunities for small countries show to the world, the Olimpic Games are one of those rare ocasions..

yes I like it too very much, but today is a dark and raining day, probably that's way I'm prefering the white and Blue...

when we became a Republic ther was a lot of discussions about if we should only change the arms or also the colors.. we changed it all..
