First of all: The correct way of choosing the city name to enter your notes in depends on the country you are in. In some countries (like :flag-de: :flag-at: :flag-fi:), only the municipality name is used. In other countries (like :flag-nl: :flag-be:) you can enter a town/village name (one layer lower).

Example: :flag-nl: Rosmalen is a village in the municipality of :flag-nl: 's-Hertogenbosch, while :flag-nl: 's-Hertogenbosch is the main town of the same municipality. In :flag-nl: The Netherlands we agreed that you need to enter the town name instead of the municipality name, while in :flag-de: Germany you always have to enter the municipality name.

Your question handles about places that are not even towns, but places in between where there happens to be an opportunity to get notes (gas station, toll stations etc.). In a country that uses the municipality name, it is simple, you can just enter this name. In countries where you can use the town or village name, I always search for the nearest town to my location (which is not always the town name they print on the receipt!!).

I don't think you should use the "city" field while entering notes to enter different information (like "toll station near town x"). This is not very useful (it will be relocated to town x), and you cause the city managers extra work (they have to merge the newly created city profile to town x).

We work like that in :flag-es: too.

More or less like this in :flag-pt: Portugal too. In fact, a town/village ("localidade" = "lugar" = "povoação") can cross the borders of two or more municipalities. Also, municipalities cover the whole territory, "localidades" don't. For EBT purposes, a note found on some place not officially belonging to any "localidade" is a pain in the ass for us city-managers — but we do have our criteria.

Keflavíkurflugvöllur? A visitor entered three notes at the airport (flugvöllur) in January this year. All the other "farþegar" (passengers) entered the notes in the town Keflavík. Keflavík Int. Airport and Keflavíkflugvöllur could be merged into the profile Keflavíkflugvöllur (airport).
I've read a post on this forum (I don't remember if it was this topic or another one), but there seems to be a village called "Keflavíkflugvöllur" (the user got there his notes, not at the airport).
So you don't have to merge these profiles.

On the Dutch forum I've also written some changes about these profiles (merging, transfering, placing in citymanager).

Thanks. That's what I think as well about isolated locations, however I noticed many people e.g. in Austria entering the village name which is then redirected to municipality and I was also wondering if that's standard practice or optional or discouraged. In :flag-si: (apparently :flag-it: and Croatia too) it works on the village level, however if you happen to pass by here, looking on the (google/printed) map for the nearest village to the location is often incorrect, as all territory is divided into so-called settlements and so in principle there's no ambiguity about where your location belongs.

In my opinion, this should be the standard practise.
My NIG stats have finally disappeared. My EBTST stats are still available.

I would support any standard practice like this one if and only if "municipality" were a universally defined type of administrative division (standardized by area and / or population). There's no such practical division standard, though, so EBT should (and in fact does) let each country decide which rules apply for their entries.

I totally agree.
In Italy we have independent profiles both for municipalities (that are official administrative divisions with perfectly defined borders) and villages (that have often not so well defined borders).

The paradoxical consequence is that two notes can be found exactly in the same place and be tracked in two different location profiles (the municipality one or the village one) depending on the user's preferences.

Indeed. If French municipalities are on average made up of 1 village, that is not the case in other countries. In Belgium, a municipality may be 2 villages big, or encompass 15 villages or more (I think of the city of Ath, wich has 19 former communes). Countries such as Denmark have made municipalities of 30 villages and up. Germany is even more complicated, as it differs from Land to Land. In some countries, there is no local government on the municipal level.

Why is the dot for Malmö http://si.eurobilltracker.com/profile/?city=58063" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; in the lower part of the city? I clearly got notes in the northern part next to the train station.

I think that :flag-hr: Kamo Škrila should be renamed to "Kamp Škrila" or just "Škrila" (name of the area on which resides Camp Škrila). What was the source for "Kamo Škrila"? I presume that it was Google Maps, but unfortunately Google Maps is wrong here - probably due to a typo.

Dear city-profile-moderators,

Last week I was on holiday in the beautiful Berner Oberland, Switzerland. I was very lucky to receive this :note-10: from a souvenir shop in Kleine Scheidegg and these :note-5: and :note-10: from a souvenir shop at the Jungfraujoch! I was the first member of EBT to enter notes in these 2 places. Two days later, the notes were end up in the city profile of Lauterbrunnen (so the city profiles of Kleine Scheidegg and Jungfraujoch were merged with the city profile of Lauterbrunnen). This seems very wrong to me! Neither of them are even part of the municipality of Lauterbrunnen (postal code 3822).
Kleine Scheidegg has its own railway station, its own hotels, its own restaurants, its own shops, even its own postal code (3801).
The Jungfraujoch also has its own railway station, restaurants and shops and has the same postal code as Kleine Scheidegg, but actually there's no real link between them.
So I would like to separate the city profiles of Kleine Scheidegg (46°35′N 7°57′E) and Jungraujoch (46°32′N 7°58′E) from the city profile of Lauterbrunnen. Most likely would be if Kleine Scheidegg and Jungfraujoch both get their own city profile!

Thanks!
