Yes, Tigerpranke, thank you very much for correcting this - now the bills also show up in British Columbia. Obviously postal codes given in Wikipedia are misleading

sinehera wrote:Hi, I entered four Euro-bills, that I just got from Canada in an envelope as payment for some research work. Those bills are from a local bank in Summerland, British Columbia, postal code V0H (with number zero as second element, so has it also english Wikipedia and so I entered it). Now those four bills are allright in EBT for Canada as country and also OK for Summerland as Canadian place, but they do not show up for Canadian province British Columbia - what could we do about that?

Here are the links to those four bills:

Hi !
Have you got the notes in you hands in Canada ?
if you only got them in Austria, you have to enter them in Austria.

Thanks for your answer.

I have entered notes in places I haven't been to as well, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Of course, I was always absolutely sure of the exact location it came from, and generally only notes from my parents I had asked previously to write the numbers down.

Here is the official rule (emphasis added by me):
  • Notes originating from other people
Again, the idea is that everybody should only track notes he/she personally held in his/her hands, but use common sense. We won't ask your 80 year old grandmother to buy a computer and register an account on EBT, so feel free to ask her if you may check out her wallet when visiting her ;-) However, we do not promote then entering of serial numbers which a stranger wrote down for you. You will be held responsible for every faked note entered on your account.
In fact, something like the following should be added to this rule:
If a note you want to register was never in your hands but you know exactly where it came from, please clarify it in the comments as well as possible.

Well, I think I follow that rule, then. I won't get my parents as far as entering serial numbers themselves, but they consider my hobby as an innocent passtime and don't mind helping me out with it, every now and then. So e.g. they kept the notes they received as change on a road trip in France wrapped in the bill where they got it at. If they didn't know, anymore, I wrote it down in the first place they were sure, mostly at home. And yes, except in the very beginning, when my comments were quite rare, I add the origin, including that it comes from my parents (or sister, or gran).

It's just my opinion, I don't understand the interest of entering this kind of note.
So your map is wrong, it's not the places where you have entered notes anymore... You are lightening dots but you never been there...

It's a bit creative, yes, but you could consider my parents as part of 'team groentje', if you want. In that way, it's not just my personal map, but my map, together with my parents'.

In fact, another rule may apply in case someone register notes from a third party on a steady basis:
  • Sharing accounts
We don't have a strict rule regarding shared accounts, but rather rely on the common sense of our users. The general idea is that everybody should track his/her own notes on his/her own account. However, there are cases when sharing an account makes more sense, e.g., if your family members or your spouse are also tracking notes. […]
There are several examples of trackers who changed their account names to reflect a new co-tracker. There are also examples of co-trackers who changed their account names down to one single tracker. Should any of you (groentje, sinehera, etc.) change the name of your accounts? I have no idea, I just assume you are using common sense and whatever you decide is fine to me.

I agree with that, no problem
According to me it's a different case, but i'm waiting for the explanations of sinehera, of course

As said, my parents aren't actively tracking their notes, but don't mind letting me write down all their serial numbers when I visit, and occasionally they will write some numbers down for me, or wrap them in the bill to have the precise origin. They won't get to exotic places just for the dot, however, and they won't withdraw money from their account just for the sake of tracking, as I sometimes would, but that's OK.
I agree, sinehera's case is a bit a grey area, and even greyer than mine, but I'd still consider them fine enough, especially if you can track their origin to that particular bank or exchange office with certainty.

Let me also remind everyone that the main purpose of EBT is to register the largest amount of euro banknotes in circulation and their location, so that tracking and diffusion can be the most significant — although statistics and rankings (and arguably maps, by analogy) are indeed part of the Mission Statement.

So, if someone is tracking notes from places they didn't visit, all the better for EBT's main purpose: the more notes the merrier. We all want hits, which are more likely to occur if more notes are registered.

My main personal purpose has been mapping my travels (although I have many other goals). Because mapping me has been my main personal purpose, I don't register a note from a place where I haven't been. But if I a banknote and I are together on the same spot, and I happen to know where it came from (because it was brought by a guest or friend from abroad, for example), I will be sure to write that down in the comment.

In the case of games that rely on statistics and maps to establish rankings, trackers who register notes from places they didn't visit may not be allowed to enter some specific competitions. Those are games and whoever manages them has discretionary power. Of course, I would expect those trackers themselves to refrain from entering some specific games, or entering them with corrected ad lib figures.

1. Sinehera got those notes by postal mail.

2. She entered those notes from the exact place where that mail came from.

3. Isn't it accurate enough?

I'm pretty sure that wouldn't be such a problem if that letter/those notes came from somewhere else in Austria instead of a big country outside the Eurozone...

But boring...
