In theory that card can be used fot internet shopping. Put a card in a reader and you're recognized as you. Of course there's the little point that no service still supports it. But oh well. No prob for me, as I don't have to let anyone ever look at the stuff in the chip. So Finland has a semantic ID while Germany has an artificial ID (a 10-digit number). The code is what the country knows me as. If I need to do something with the authorities, they ask for my personal code. Then they enter it on their computer and get all of my info from the computer (depending on how much the officer is allowed to know). Most of times that consist of address, full name, history, specific info and so on. I think the system is very handy to keep things working well.
