I live in a shared 5 bedroom house with 4 other people, for the whole house the rent is £550, so £110 each, that is about € 160.

Damn, that's cheap! Even if you take into account the fact that 5 adult people living in the same flat just makes everything quite annoying.

Here in Vienna the average rent is a little bit below 10 € / m^2, depending on the area, size and quality of the apartment. If sharing an apartment the lower limit for a room is about 250 €, the upper limit around 400 €.
When buying an apartment you have to except everythign between 1200 € and 6000 € / m^2, with an average of about 2000 €.
When I was living in the US (small college town) we paid 1300 USD for a 3 bedroom (I guess a little more than 80 m^2) apartment. Including internet and electricity we ended up spending 500 USD (so about 400 €) a person.
In Austria most students spend around 300 € for rent when sharing an apartment and about 400 € for a single room apartment (about 35 or 40 m^2).
An 80 m^2 apartmen costs at least 600 €, in more popular areas of Vienna it might cost 800 €.

I pay 120 € per month. This is a three room flat (74 m2) in good condition and about six km from Helsinki city centre. Electricity is about 70 €/3 months.

Helsinki is hell...
Currently I pay 680 € per month for 48 m2, but it takes me about 30 minutes to go to the center by bus.
I've seen prices up to 1000 € per month for a 20 m2 room in a shared flat in the center...
