Bye.
Not only that:

They must have printed the necessary amount to supply the market, and this is not fast at all, either.

You are both right, but you are missing the point as I was only talking about the CHANGEOVER/WITHDRAWAL procedure of the older series.

Συμφωνούμε, YCNZ. Related to what you say, for my work I need small bills quite often. I don't know if the withdrawal of 20ers will be organized in a faster way, but every time I go to my bank in order to get 5ers and teeners, I get some old series banknotes, so I cannot assure that 2002s are retired, other than the worn ones.

Watch ECB video https://youtu.be/VOffWozT4jA?t=1m7s (and other videos for all languages) from 01:10.

Curiously, the serial numbers seen for :note-20: :flag-eu: are XZ and NZ !!

Note: all the serial numbers on that video are already on EBT's list of public serials.

As far as I know, R, P, E, H and/or J are still to be seen, as well as V.

W, P, E, H and J won't be used for the first :note-20: :flag-eu: series. Printers for the 2014 batch for Germany are X and R. Other letters may appear in the future if the German central bank decides to print its share of notes elsewhere but we'll have to wait.

And XZ and NZ could be test series.

YCNZ wrote:Regarding how long it will take to see the new :note-50: : We can NOT make any safe conclusions based only on how long it took for the :note-5: and the :note-10: yet. The :note-5: and the :note-10: , once they leave the bank, they will go back to a bank very rarely as they are being deposited individually or in very small quantities, therefore it takes much longer for the 2002 series to be recycled back into a bank/post office etc at any point and then withdrawn. Think about when was the last time you went into a bank and paid in any amount with only :note-5: and :note-10:.

The :note-20: and the :note-50: however, are (in most countries) the only / lowest denominations issued by ATMs, therefore, a single bank, can in one moment, withdraw their full bulk of 2002 series notes and simply supply the ATMs with the new series, (provided they have enough stock and they are instructed to do so), but my point is, that it is much much easier to collect all the 2002 :note-20: , the :note-50: and so on, than the :note-5: and the :note-10: which do not end up back into the banking system in bulk and therefore are much more difficult to be collected and withdrawn, therefore there is a longer period in between the release of the new series of those small denominations. Not to mention that during the changeover period of 18 months for the :note-5: and the :note-10: , many banknotes of the new series, will ALSO have to be recycled due to tear and wear, so the production must not only be enough to cover the withdrawal of all 2002's, but to also replace the damaged banknotes of the new series as well, which already have begun to appear in increasing quantities.

Seeing that the denominations above :note-10: are those being counterfeited the most, a "big bang" changeover should not surprise us, with an ATM issuing only the new series and the 2002 series being withdrawn immediately, already packed and ready from the bank vaults, quickly and easily. And do not be surprised if you also see the :note-100: , :note-200: and :note-500: being changed all together at the same time, (since not that many of them will need to be printed to begin with. It will be even easier for those).

Of course some of you will tell me that in your country your bank issues :note-5: and :note-10: and you have been getting mixed 2002 and 2013 series together for months after each release etc etc. I know. Probably there were not enough :note-5: and :note-10: to cover a full withdrawal. Probably the ECB decided not to do it as not all banks in every country issue :note-5: and :note-10: . Probably because they still had a good amount of the old series and they wanted to use those up first. Probably because the :note-5: and :note-10: are of low counterfeiting risk. All I tried to explain though was that we will not necessarily have to wait 18 months for every new release after the :note-20: .
That's interesting, thanks. Personally I think they maybe will wait longer before making new :note-500: and :note-200: I've seen quite a lot Duisenberg notes that still where in a very good state.

The :note-100: I get from ATM usually in :flag-nl: are often in a worse shape than :note-50: by the way. Although they are not used a lot in : :flag-nl:

Great, thanks! Let's wait for those 7 confirmed letters to come out then!
Ordered by printer code letter: M/M, N/N, R/R, S/S, U/U, V/V, X/X. Ordered by ISO country letter code: N/N, R/R, X/X, V/V, U/U, S/S, M/M.

Side note: I'll be at Banco de Portugal on the 25th of November in the morning and I will save my first notes! I didn't keep my :note-10: :flag-eu: V/V and they proved to be a very unusual letter in Portugal, at least at first. For days after I picked those V/V, the only Europa tenners circulating were E/E (and some P/P outside Lisbon). I am yet to find any Y/Y, and no one in Portugal has yet found Z/Z.
LucasFr wrote:And XZ and NZ could be test series.
Interesting! If that's the case, I guess they will be quite valuable if ever they end in the hands of a collector.

There are no :note-10: Z/Z until now, so no wonder, that no one found one

Erm… Nope, you're right, my bad. They're not on Guy Sohier's liste. I guess these notes are mistyped.

(And while I was typing this, ErGo has already answered. :) )

Any predictions about which countries will get what when the new :note-20: s are out?
I would assume :flag-gr: will get S :flag-it: :note-20: , same as when the new :note-5: came out, since there are no :flag-gr: :note-20: Y/Y for the time being..

I made these graphs for a posting in the Finnish forum, but perhaps others find these graphs interesting as well.

You can find the numbers that I used from here.

Very interesting indeed!
It looks like tenners fluctuate less than fivers around the decay curve. I wonder why is that, maybe that's because fivers circulate more, any ideas?
I received my last old tenner yesterday after a long time.

Bye!
