The new 50-euro bill is set to go into circulation in the second quarter of 2017.

Until today I only input 2 bills of 500 €. I promise to catch 3 of them in May 2016 - as long as they still exist.

Europa series of euro banknotes will not include the €500 .

The €100 and €200 banknotes of the Europa series are planned to be introduced around the end of 2018.

Do not get too nervous about that. ECB will be printing them 'till the end of 2018, and they will not expire...

Apparently there's an ATM located on one of the suburban beach cities south of Athens, issuing these UNC N001 NZs, according to a friend who originally had 4 of those on him, all sequential. The problem is that he got them yesterday, plus that ATM is about 45km away (in dense traffic) so there's no point even trying to go there really..

I've got one of those today from an ATM.
Notes were not sequential, not even from the same printer, but all new.

ECB's press release: Eurosystem prepares introduction of new €50 banknote (16 June 2016)

Here are the most relevant bits:

"The European Central Bank (ECB) and the national central banks of the euro area – the Eurosystem – will unveil the new Europa series €50 banknote to the public on 5 July 2016. The new note is planned to be brought into circulation in spring 2017.

The national central banks of the Eurosystem have since April offered banknote equipment manufacturers the opportunity to carry out tests with new €50 banknotes inside national central bank buildings. From July, they will also offer new €50 banknotes on loan to interested banknote equipment manufacturers and other relevant third parties for testing at their own offices and at banknote equipment locations."

The security feature "portrait window" that reveals a portrait of Europe also seems to exist
(as it happened with the new note) at the upper right side of the new note.
