I have to say, Stiegl is a very patriotic beer! Really everybody in that region drinks that beer. In other parts of Austria, peolpe are not so... And it's the biggest private brewery in Austria!

Beer is my first love (before EBT even)....

The UK has so many great beers and beer styles, which many people do not know about. I think there are probably about 3000-4000 currently being brewed. My personal total is about 1800 tasted so far (although some of these are from UK breweries that no longer exist). However, as you cannot find British beer in may places, I will list some favourite beers from other Europe:

Belgium: Straffe Hendrik, Orval, Gueuze beers (such as Timmermans, belle Vue), Chimay beers
France: Septante Cinq, Trois Monts, Jenlain
Germany: Erdinger Dunkel Weissbier, Scheider Aventinus, smoky Rauchbiers (such as Heller Bamberg)
Czech Republic: Budweiser Budvar, Czech Dark Lagers (mmmmm...)
Ireland: numerous excellent stouts (other than Guinness!)

BTW, talking about the topic of this thread.. Löwenbrau doesn't taste very special, either. It's a 100% average German beer that doesn't have any characteristic at all. Just falls between everything else.

Hm, that isn't a problem I think....The problem with Heineken is that it taste characteristicly bad

I like Koff, even right now I'm enjoying 32% Suomi-Viina (vodka).

When I'm at home I usually take Heineken or Dommelsch. When I'm not, I drink almost any beer in front of me

On holidays I always try the local stuff, like these exotic brands:
Taiwan Beer - Taiwan (only available in cans as far as I know, tasted better than expected)
Belikin - Belize (strange taste, but not bad)
Gallo - Guatemala (not bad, but in these warm climates anything that's cold tastes good)

Avoid:
Cerveza Aguilera - Colombia (hope I got the name right, after trying one I switched to the only other brand in the house: Heineken in a 250cc can )

Well, today I gave the second one (Švyturys) a try. I was in shopping centre Myyrmanni and while trying to walk out from it I simply couldn't resist a visit to the Alko there. Saw a logo familiar to me from the web page you had mentioned and decided to buy the bottle. The beer tasted quite a lot like Saku Rock (which I really like), but had a similar turpentine-like taste with Saku Tume I really don't like. Luckily the taste was not very easy to find from this beer.
I don't know why, but for some reason I can't stand that taste at all. I used to like Saku Tume very much until I found that aftertaste. After that I haven't been able to drink Saku Tume (or other beers with the same characteristic) at all.

However, generally the taste of Švyturys was nicely distinctive. I can imagine it would be very good both in a hot summery day at some terrace and in a dark winter day in home straight from the bottle :)
