I think the Danish flag is the oldest flag in the world as it was used already in viking times. I'm pretty sure the Swedish flag is the second oldest flag of the Nordic countries; it was taken to use at latest in the 17th century. Finnish flag is one of the newest, I think it's from 1918.

There used to be many suggestions for the Finnish flag and in quite early stage they decided to use white and blue which symbolise snow, bright sky and the several lakes. The ended up to the cross shape for two reasons:

1. Because it symbolises the Christian religion. I don't know if that's the original idea of the cross shape used in other Nordic flags.

2. The other Nordic countries had cross-flags as well and Finland wanted to tell with it that we are a part of the same cultural area.

I would prefer a poll were I could choose the nicest flag. I don't have a great dislike for any flag, personally... Austria I don't like to much, but I can't select it...

I would prefer Finland, I think, at least in the current EU. Or Sweden. Estonia or Lithuania I like, very much, Latvia less.

There are other flags that are similar, Chad and Romenia, or Monaco and Indonesia. The most Arab flags are indeed also very similar. And some of the flags in the Pacific are also very alike.

Yeah, why isn't Austria taking part to the poll?? Or Luxembourg Hahah.. Well the blue in it is just a bit lighter they say, otherwise it is similar to the Dutch one.

I don't really like the Spanish flag for some reason :/

Because every poll has at most ten options and the person who started it judged very correctly that there is no reason to propose that the Austrian flag were the ugliest in Europe.

Someone asked this question already. It's because a poll has 10 possibilities maximum. Austria just fel out.

i think the belgiums have the same colors onlye the playce of the colors are different.
SO i think its not the flag you dont like- its the country!


so, i don't like the colurs in the irish flags. i don't like this kind of red and green.

Belgium is runner up with 11 votes now, so that makes clear it definitely has to do with the colours.

And admit, the black/yellow/red is not the most happy combination, right?
