Best example for this are peep shows where women dominate men just by performing some slow movements which makes the men spend lots of money. The woman is resting on a sort of throne, while the men pay money for sitting in some sort of prison. This is very humiliating to men!
But why do you think it is humiliating to all men, why not just to them who play in the show or pay for it?
Because it never happens the other way around! Did you ever hear that women creep into boxes just to look at a naked man?
Actually some Finnish yellow papers wrote recently something about (middle-aged) Finnish women who go to Tallinn to entertain themselves in such a club...

I don't know about the box thing but I guess there's a big difference between how men and women feel sex. For men it's enough to see something to get excited, women seem to need more touching. Quite many (lonely) women seem to have a dildo at home but I don't know how many men have a motor vagina. I think not so many.

My opinion about this is that not all the memes are urging their host to duplicate them. For instance a secret can be considered as a meme too. A secret is an information patern, it is held within an individual's memory. And it is capable of being copied to another individual's memory. But the secret will only be copied by effective interrogation or by torturing the keeper of the secret.
I see secrets this way: "a secret" is actually a block of many memes, and the secretmeme is a value that dominates the others. The thing we keep as a secret can't be duplicated, because the secretmeme is so powerful, it's really deep inside us that if something is a secret it must be kept. Of course sometimes the sectermeme is broken by the gossipmeme, if the individual is conviced that gossiping brings more happiness than keeping a secret, if the mind is more open to the gossipmeme to dominate.
Secretmeme is actually a really groundmeme, it is spread all over, because secrets are way to keep our faces and we learn quite early that if we keep somethig to ourselves, it is called as a secret. And if the secret is something that we have heard from someone else and have been told to keep it as a secret, we have gotten some information and an activation of a meme.
Oh, it surely has been too long since my latest english lesson, I can't type my thoughts here clear enough. But at least I tried to get my point to you.
I think that the memetheory casts nearly everything, if you just put some effort on finding the memes behind actions and thoughts you find it, but all the same I'm not sure is it always worth searching: sometimes it is easier to border some thoughts like information out of the term of memes, usually I think values and other thoughts that make us act some particular way as memes and leave things like news about something that someone has done out of the word.
Argh. I'm really confusing today.

Oh, yes. That against the population-thing. Like I wrote (or did I leave it out of the ready message? Can't remember), memes aren't good or bad, they just are. They don't exist for bringing good for the population, for example those "that particular moment we all must kill ourselves"-cults are possible because of memes, the leader of the cult spreads a strong meme and those people who are in the cult don't question any actions the leader says they should do, because they have a meme about the leader being right in their minds.
Nature isn't sane creature and people aren't nothing but chimp species, so memes don't have to be logic and they don't get into someone's mind because they are good for us, it is enought that they are powerful enough to be spread. Like genes, memes aren't always perfect, they can mutate too orsomethinglikethat. I mean, that memes are like genes, and there are genes that aren't good for the population, for example some genes that cause several problems in the body like genes that are the cause of handicapped being built other way than the others etc.

What about the Chippendales the American strippers? There seems (or seemed) to be quite an audience for them. And remember the film The Full Monty?

Me either, but I have read about something like that. There's a great passage in a book by a Dutch author, Ronald Giphart. It's called 'De Voorzitter', The President, and it's about the corrupt a-moral owner of a football club. One of the great things he mentions are (shady) dealings with the real-life president of Feyenoord, a team we both support.

Anyway, in this story the main character goes to a club in Manchester and there's this Swedish (I think) businessman at the bar. He tries to persuade this man to procure the services of one of the many beautiful girls that happen to be around, but he refuses because he has got his own. And he shows him a rubber model of a vagina that he keeps with him in a box...

I don't think it's been translated so you'll have to believe my word that the book's quite hilarious.

O and the fact that more people own a dildo is also due to the fact that couples use them as well.

Probably also because it's far harder for a woman to simulate sex herself than it is for a man. Men can use a hand. But not many women have fingers that are big enough to use for simulating a penis.

I was taught in school - as early as the second year of secondary school, we were 13 years old - that women don't need penetration to come to a climax. We were even shown a cartoon on how to masturbate for girls. If you would check up on female anatomy you would find that the clitoris is outside the vagina!

PS I can't believe I'm lecturing a stranger on this subject on the internet...

Annie is here. But...

I'm not a prude, but I think that the discussion has taken an unwanted turn here. Therefore I kindly ask Dakkus and Ganymede to modify or delete their messages. Of course there's nothing wrong, and as Ganymede said it, he heard this at school, but even if we're discussing off-topic matters, this goes a bit too far. So please do something, otherwise the moderators may close the whole discussion. :)

If someone knows that you have a secret, she/he will probably want to know what that secret is. So in fact that person wants to copy your meme, it is not your meme that incites you to copy it.

When I read about memes it's always about the fact that memes make their hosts copy the memes to other individuals. But sometimes memes get copied because those who haven't got the meme (yet) are anxious to get it. Sometimes they even use very drastic meme extraction techniques like torture for it.

Your memes have clearly entered my head. Of course there have been some copying errors while absorbing the copy, but that's what normally happens with memes. ;)

I completely agree on this. Because good or bad needs a context. When something is good it is actually good for something, good for achieving an objective, not good on it's own.

Come on, I think this discussion was as decent as it could be when talking about these things. :?

There's a saying that bad things always come in 3's. Do they?

Along a similar line: Why is it that when I am already on the phone, I am far mor likely to get another call than when I'm not on the phone?

Because there are times of the day when it's more probable that someone calls you than on the other times of the day.
So, during that time of the day, you are most probable to talk in a phone. And, since that's also the time you most probably receive calls, it's not weird at all if that happens. Especially if you talk longish conversations in the phone.

This is a work-related question and this is without taking into account people 'phoning first thing in the morning or when they've just come back from their lunch break. No, what I mean is when in the middle of a quiet afternoon at some point somehow five people 'phone at once.
I don't háve a life.
