I was looking at Effin on the map.
It's not a town or village,but a townland.
There is one bar with Effin as its address
https://www.facebook.com/davysbar/
I think it's the only place around that you could get an Effin note.
I was in Charleville a few years ago an saw Effin on a road sign.
I was heading back to Galway and didn't have the time to try and find the place.

lmviterbo wrote: Wed Jun 09, 2021 8:07 pm The "town" is in fact an unpopulated place on the Faial island, and its name is Cu de Judas. "No cu de Judas" (literally, "in Judas's arse") is a Portuguese idiom meaning very far from anywhere, like "in the middle of nowhere" or "below the horizon" or "at the end of the world" or "god-know-where".

I never mentioned Cu de Judas before because I didn't know it was an actual place (sort of). I was only familiar with the idiom.

CHEEKY BBC weathergirl Kaddy Lee-Preston turned up the heat when she put "rude" village names on her TV map.

Towns like Dover, Margate and Maidstone were replaced with real-life places such as Upper Dicker, Thong and Pratt's Bottom.

And Kaddy struggled to keep a straight face as she predicted a sunny day in Horne, Clap Hill and Ripple.

But she earned a ticking off from bosses, unamused at her joke on BBC South East Today's weekend weather summary for Kent.

A BBC spokesman said: "Kaddy just meant this as a light-hearted attempt at humour using real place names.

"But she now realises that it was inappropriate and apologises."

The BBC has yet to receive any complaints about the broadcast at 10.30pm on Friday and Kaddy's apology is likely to see her escape disciplinary action from angry bosses.

One viewer said: "She did not make reference to the places but had a cheeky grin on her face."

Forecasters around the country could have fun with Slackbottom in Yorkshire, Twatt on the Orkney Islands and Great Cockup in Cumbria.

Why would anyone do this, considering Britain has plenty of actual rude town names?

I have two words for that. "Fuck off". A bit of a joke does not harm anyone.
But you can expect that from a country where commentators apologise when someone interviewed says a so-called rude word. I get more offended by that kind of apologising then by the rude words.

Both slang words for "penises" (yes, plural in both cases) in Portuguese.
