Post by Angelino »

Does anybody know the short code (only the first character) of the irish and portuguese 200 and 500 € bills?
I want to know where are printed these bills.

Portugal: U
Ireland: K (there are also single notes from printers F and H in the database)
You best look under "complete lists" and there under "tables". There you find all notes from the database. Look out: There might be typing errors, specially small figures in the tables are uncertain. There are only 13 notes of denominations 200 € and 500 € from Ireland and Portugal in the whole database.

Thank you, Donald. I think that the number of these bills entered it's too little in order to confirm U for portuguese and K for irish, but the table at 'complete lists' helps me a lot.

Skylimit, Spain is a EBT-ing dessert. Since this month, I thought that I'm the only spanish person who enter notes for a days.

to tell you the truth I don't know if there are 200 and 500 euro notes from Portugal (M-notes), because I remember reading in newspapers that the portuguese government had decided not to produce them..

any way, the majority of Portuguese 50 euro notes are made in London (short code H) and the 100 euro notes are made in Germany (short code P).

one has to differentiate two things:
  • an NCB produces euro notes (possibly by giving the order to a non-domestic printer)
  • the NCB emits the euro notes it produced
The portuguese NCB produced 1.0 million 200 EUR-notes and 0.5 million 500 EUR-notes (see the table at my page/information), but it might not have emitted them (i.e. put them in circulation) but keep them in reserve.

The production figures for irish T/200-notes and T/500-notes are even only 0.2 million notes.

OK, Thomas. It is possible that irish and portuguese 200 & 500 notes are not in circulation.

I'll never know where are they printed

Bossa Nova: it's very difficult to make a spanish-portuguese hit (with me...). In Barcelona only 1% circulating notes are portuguese.

German 10%, French 8%, Austrian 7%!!!!!, Greek 5%, Italian 4%, Dutch 3%...

Spanish 60%.

Portugal está lejos de Barcelona. A 1000 km.

We have a lot of circulating spanish nots, at least I get a lot of them. as for portuguese/Spanish hits, it's not impossible, there are a lot of people crossing from one country to the other, and that come from germay or france by car, to como to Portugal, Spain has to be a stop place.

As for me I'll go to Malaga for a few days in October, I intend do take a lot of registered notes (I'll pay the hotel in cash), and bring some (at least 2 or 3 5€ notes) back, who knows one of them might be yours.

me too ;)

Maybe now that eurobilltracker is having such a nice coverage on portuguese media! There was this news by Lusa news agency: http://www.lusa.pt/print.asp?id=SIR-7409190 Published at least in 2 papers:

http://jn.sapo.pt/2005/10/17/ultima/no_ ... notas.html

http://publico.clix.pt/shownews.asp?id= ... Canal=1453

Maybe some TV channel will make a report ;)

One more: http://www.correiomanha.pt/noticia.asp? ... al=11&p=94

Jornal de Notícias and Correio da Manhã are the 2 most read daily papers. This Monday is going to be big! :)

edit: Also Metro (most read free paper) and Jornal de Negócios had small news on EBT :)

Great News Bossa Nova!

This is great to see. If I am not wrong Portugal already has a decent hit ratio, this should give it another big boost!

Heartwarming
