Self hit

Today my mother got a few notes of 50EUR from an ATM here in Kontich, and one of them is already entered by me!
I looked it up in the CSV file on EBT, and I entered this note on 12-02-2003, so more than a month ago.
Well, I don't consider this as an 'interesting hit' but it's fun to see a note you had some time ago again! :p
Besides, I can't enter this note, since I'm the last user who entered it...

I call such a hit a boomerang hit.

nice name :p
Apparently, my dad gave his notes to the bank in Mortsel (3km away from Kontich), like he always does.
And then this note travelled from there to Kontich, and ended up in an ATM.
There my mother withdrew 250€ this morning, and one of these notes had my marking on it.

I checkd it, and yes I already had that one !

I had the same problem,

... already 5 times ... the longest time between a boomerang hits was about 6 months.

I had a boomerang hit as well once, I had a 500 euro bill that ended up in my BNP branch, I noticed it by the url on the note and I entered it but it turns out I entered it once. I think the customer must have been heading back to France and deposited in my branch. I became branch director since March 1st and its been going not too badly, the first days were bad.

Here is a thread concerning a very curious boomerang hit.
It's in German. Summarized for those unfamiliar with this language: 8 bills, returned to the tracker himself after 3 months, and that in Berlin, a metropolitan area with rapid circulation.

I have them all the time, because I don't enter my families notes, and pretty often I change bills with them if I need certain notes (for example if I need 20e notes). I'm not sure but I think I have a couple of "real" ones as well.

I guess this shouldn't be considered as a self-hit.
Let's try a definition: A self-hit is a bill that is registered, then spent in natural circulation and comes back by natural circulation to the person who registered it.
Remains the question what "natural circulation" means - but that's a recurring topic in the discussion of moderation policies.

I think a more exact definition would be: the note is registered, spent in natural circulation, got back from natural circulation from a different place and/or in a different day.
I think it's clearly a self-hit even if it's got back in the same place if it has happened at least one day later. The only problem in this definition is that if you have registered a huge part of the bills which are in that place it can't be a normal hit. But if you go to a bar, buy a pint, pay it, do the same thing in the following day and get back the note you had spent in the previous day, it is clearly a self-hit.

...
Who wants to make it a real hit?

I have also had some self hits lately. When I travel from one local bank to another, I have get my own bills back again. With this information I have been able to figure out how some local stores handle their cash. So also self hits are sometimes interesting.

Ofcourse, it's not uncirculated anymore, rather fairly used.

I hardly ever enter notes (I think I entered 61 notes in 3 sessions) but I still got an opinion on the naming of these hits.
If you enter a note, spent it at store/bank A and get it back some time later in store/bank B, I propose 'boomerang (hit)'.
If you enter a note, spent it at store/bank A and you (or your family, you check their wallets too, of course) get it back some time later from the same store/bank, I propose the name 'bounce (hit)'.
The difference is that a boomerang actually flies a circuit, where a 'bounce' means that you get something from the same direction as were you threw it. It's up to you people what to do with this proposal.

Or we can come to some kind of compromise and call it a Bouncyrang hit.
