It seems to me Finland is the only country that doesn't want to win. There's no other reason why they keep sending lousy songs to the contest every year it's possible

France does not want neither... it's been for 20 years! ;-)
France 2 thinks it costs too much to host the contest.

According to the list of previous winners the Grand Prix goes normally to some small country (e.g. Ireland 7 times, Luxembourg 5 times). Russia is a large country (in fact, the largest by area).
The strategy of addressing the subconscious mind of the male viewers has been applied several times, normally in vain. I remember the respective attempt of Macedonia some years ago - I think it was the year when the aged Olsen brothers won for Denmark.

Austria's last and only victory was in 1966 (with the surprisingly still well known Udo Jürgens), Germany was successful only in 1982. France won at least three times (1958, 1960, 1977), and yes, Finland has never won so far.

Portugal is a small country, and we never won.
I've a feeling that this year, once more, we have one of the last 5 places reserved

Hope to be wrong

remember Dana International?

so, I guess a teen lesbian duo is the best strategy for victory..

That's going to help them a lot, they are very popular right now all over Europe so they'll sure get some extra votes 'cause of that.
But still, nothing is for granted, who guessed Latvia was going to win last year?

Holland always comes up with a very stupid number, thius year it's a damn blondine wth a 'song' called 'One more time' or something. I wonder how many votes they'll get.

But those Russian girls are doing great in the hit-lists in Europe, (I don't really like their songs)
Most people who watch the Euroviseon Song Contest are at some age that they only like 'old' songs
And T.A.T.U is new.

I wonder what is the average age of the eurovisions fans...

I like it but I never agree with the votes... and I never remember who won, who represented France, etc...

It's a eurokitsch party.

Every year, eurovision song contest has a victim for polemics... usually in vain, I agree with Gauss.

We could try fixing the situation by asking some foreigner to represent us. Celine Dion represented Switzerland in 1988, and won the contest. As far as I can tell, Celine wasn't born in Switzerland, so what's stopping us Finns getting some famous singer to represent us this time?

Just for curiosity - has there ever been a gay winner of the Grand Prix d"Eurovision?

Wild guess but: Probably far above the average age of this forum's readers.
