Solar Eclipse while the sun was rising!

Who saw something of the half solar eclipse at sunrise?

I didn't, I slept too long,

didn't wake up at the right time.

I really wanted to see it, the next Solar Eclips during sunrise is in 2081

Yes, I did see it.

Fortunately the sky was clear this morning. Here the sun was quite high in the sky. It was 90 % eclipse, but the sunshine was still bright.

You should have announced that eclipse beforehand, Fons! I didn't know it and didn't see it

. But I saw the total eclipse in 1999

We had no clouds here in Geilenkirchen, but it was hazy against the horizon. So I only could see the sun 20 minutes after sunrise. At sunrise in Geilenkirchen the eclipse was already at its maximum and I missed the very best part, but I still could see an impressive red crescent against a hazy grey horizon later (after 5.45 h Central European Summer Time).

The Eclipse of 1999 was no success to me. I got wet through somewhere in the German Saarland and only saw a crescent through the clouds after the totality. I was standing on a hill from where I had intended to see the Moon's shadow running towards me, but finally I only stood there soaked in the dark

I didn't saw this eclips, It was too early for me. But I did see the eclips in 1999 I was on vacation near Verdun and we were able to see a full eclips and it was great!

A partial eclipse will be seen within the much broader path of the Moon's penumbral shadow, which includes most of Europe (except Spain and Portugal)....

Here's the answer to my question... that's why I didn't hear about the eclipse.
But I also also saw another one a few years ago, maybe this one in 1999.

I saw it, and it was beautiful! Unfortunately the sun came up when the
maximum was over

, but sunrise was only a few minutes after the
maximum

, so the eclipse was pretty big.

About the solar eclipse of 11th of august 1999, that's was a drama to me

After having looked out for it for 6 years (!!!) it was 11th august 1999.
We got up at 3:30 and we made a trip to France, to Montdidier, between
Lille and Paris. We didn't end up in a traffic queue, so we arrived there at
7:30. The sky was pretty bright except for a few clouds. This was a very
promising start of the day. But clouds came from the west, and at 9:30 it
was comletely cloudy, so I said to my parents: "We should move to the
west, because the cloud is moving to the east, and if we go to the west we
will reach the end of the cloud earlier, so we will have a bigger chance to
see the total eclipse!" But unfortunately they didn't listen and decided to
stay where we were. At 12:30, a few minutes before totality, it was still
cloudy, and there weren't any gaps to see in the cloud, so I started feeling
depressed

and very mad

! At 12:34 it got dark: the
eclipse was now total. At 12:37 the total eclipse was over, and my
madness reached the highest point in my life! But the worse was yet to
come...

At 12:40 we left, and at 12:50 there was a gap in the cloud through which
I could see a partial eclipse. At 13:00 the end of the cloud came in sight
and at 13:30 the sky was as clear as crystal!

And my mood
didn't get better when we ended up in a 60 km long traffic queue before
the Belgian border and reached the border at 17:00. At 18:15 we reached
Antwerp, and got jammed again!

. At 19:45 we left Antwerp
and we could drive on, getting home at 20:30.

Looking out for an event for 6 years and the event wasn't visible because
my parents wanted to stay under the cloud SUCKS!!!!!!!!

Now I'll have to wait until the 20th of March 2015, when there will be a
total solar eclipse at the Faröer Islands...

Yes, I saw that one in 1999 to, I was in Cornwall (Great-Brittain), but everyday before the 'solar elcipse day' (11th of August) it was very clear, but only THAT day it was very cloudy

I heard that the solar elics from yesterday was very vey very beautiful in Iceland.
In a country (I don't remember which) people bought a eclipse-flight for 75 euro, from the plane was the eclipse very good to see!!!
I saw it on telviseon

Hi all!

I didn't saw anything; the sky was totally cloudly! And the sun was rising: I never see it because there are hills around my house. And in 1999, I was in Greece so I only saw a little partial eclipse

During the 1999 eclipse I was in Taizé, France (about 100 kms North of Lyon, not very far away from the medieval monastery of Cluny). There the eclipse was total and it was very beautiful to see, the day became night... It was fantastic. I weared this special glasses so the sunlight wouldn't hurt my eyes. I still keep them at home

1999 eclipse was successful for me. I traveled down heading for Stuttgart, were late and ended up in Karlsruhe at the small airport. The clouds went away, the eclipse came, the eclipse went away, the clouds came (in this order). It was really good luck that we ended up in Karlsruhe because Stuttgart was cloudy.
