5 Euro notes

Post by Sissco »

I've noticed that on a five Euro note there's a wee tiny map of- what to me looks like North Africa. It also looks like a north African country is shaded in. Is there A north African country that has adopted the Euro? If not then why is it coloured and shaded in?

Many thanks

pretty sure it is indeed french guyana.

wikipedia said the following according to guyana:

French Guiana (French: Guyane française, officially Guyane) is an overseas department (French: département d'outre-mer, or DOM) of France, located on the northern coast of South America. It has borders with two nations, Brazil and Suriname. Like the other DOMs, French Guiana is also an overseas region of France, one of the 26 regions of France. Its currency is the euro. The prefecture is Cayenne.

I agree

La Guyane is a part of France like La Réunion, La Guadeloupe, La Martinique (the other french overseas island on the :note-5: )

Is is to hope that not more islands become french; otherwise they do not fit on the banknote.

Also what (is)land is represented too large or too small compared with Europe.

But this country is not French Guyana; it's the independent, formerly British, Guyana.
My NIG stats have finally disappeared. My EBTST stats are still available.

The dot is in the right place. Miskolc is the third biggest city of Hungary.
These bills should not have been entered as Guyana bills.

north Africa is on the notes, just because it fits on the notes. It is in a different colour than Europe, just like the Asian part of Turkey.
Many parts of Europe on the map are not using the euro and are not even in the EU

One reason North Africa is visible is because it lets Canary Islands on to the map. It's a bit odd though that they didn't include Cyprus aswell. I know Cyprus wasn't originally in the euro zone but then again it is a part of Europe and only a few millimeters off to the right of the map.

Cyprus actually is a part of Asia, although it is politically counted as part of Europe.

Maps tell so much

I like maps. They tell us so much more than they are ment to.

If you look at the 500 years old maps you soon notice that the most important places are often exaggerated in size and the places of not that much importance are not that exactly put there - if even noticed. The map of 2 euro coin is interesting in this respect. We can see there not much more than one third of Finland on the map. Most of the Eastern Finland and all the Northern Finland do not exist according to this map - at least not as part of EU.

But who cares as there are less than one million people living there - or should I say here. If EU thinks we are not part of the European Union does it not also mean that the legislation of EU is not valid here? If so, we can live with it. No need to pity for us.

Yours

Puup W enpen

PS. have you ever noticed the planned bridges already marked on the map of each and every 5 euro note? Rather long bridges we are going to build with EU subsidies. Whenever the bridges are ready I promise to personally bike all way the Turkey - Greece - Italy - Africa - Atlantis (Ἀτλαντὶς νῆσος) highway. Even though it must be quite windy and chilly biking there if the bridges will be build using the suspension bridge method.

on the first one, whole Finland is there, and on the second, no borders are drawed, but I think all of Finland, along with parts of Russia, is on the map. You may not make differences between the different metals of the coin. Finland is to a part golden and to a part silvern

I don't see it, what do you mean? I don't even see bridges that already exist :o
