I have seen them (in the Euro coin kit last December), but never used. 1 and 2c coins don't have the same status as the other coins because of the rounding rules.

Look at this topic for more info.

I've seen them only in starter kits. Before the euro we had those annoying 10 penniä -coins (about 0.017 €) and everyone just stored them somewhere, never used them. It's a lot better this way.

They actually never took them back from the market, the decision not to use them was made before the euro launch.

1 more question ...

Thanks for the info. Is it possible in Finland as a tourist, for example, to pay 10 cent using 5 x 2 cent from your own country or is it illegal to use 1 and 2 cent over there :?: :| :?: Thx

I believe it is possible. The practice is only about rounding the price to nearest 5 cents.

... the funny thing is, if the cash register shows say 1e24c you must pay 1e25c even if you had the exact coins. However, if you use your credit card, the exact amount is charged. "To keep things simple" goes the official explanation.

Yep, 1c and 2c are legal money, so for small amount they're okay. But if you try to pay 20e in 1c cashier could refuse it as well as if you want to pay 1000e in 1e they may not accept it.

And what comes to credit cards, looks like sooner or later they'll round those too, to make things simplier

I read an article about this in Helsingin Sanomat this morning. It seems they accept the exact price at Stockmann.
