I think what scientists say about this ("pure nonsense") falls short to describe the original claim.

right, people on the internet are discussing much nonsense in these days
the nonsense part in the "supermoon" warnings is seen by regarding the very small difference between the normal distance and the supermoon distance. When the moon is 1 km closer to the earth, that will make the tidal waves a fraction of 1 mm higher, I guess
The tsunami that killed hundreds of thousands of people in Indonesia happened two weeks before the January 2005 supermoon
two weeks before a very close approach of the moon, there should be a very far distance of the moon, so the Indonesian earthquake happened while the moon was unusually far away!

the only wrong thing in this article:
During a full moon, the sun and the moon are pulling on Earth from opposite sides - making the chances of any dramatic tidal events unlikely.
it's just the constellation that the sun, the earth and the moon are in one line that makes the tides higher. It doesn't matter from which sides they pull.

"Do you have Buddha-nature or not?"
The cow answered: "Moo."
