(IDEA) Newsletter (changed)

Post by €€F »

It is possilble to develop a newsletter (opt-in), where you can select the information you would like to see within EBT?

In my idea, you could choose the frequency of getting the letter to:
daily
weekly
monthly
yearly

Next, you can choose to see

New members (/country)
Latest hits (how many , daily report , etc .. longest km / time)
top users / day / week
notes/day / week etc.
etc.
etc.

So I get a report by mal of items I am interested in within EBT.

.........

I know avij was aginst it .. but when this kind of newsletter is finishes, you could inform inactive users hoping they get active again ..

Good idea, as long as you give the users the option to not receive a newsletter ;)
Maybe to make it a bit more attractive and not only statistics, you can let someone write something about their experiences with eurobilltracking. Like a funny story or something.

I voted NO.

Because it's a very good idea, but then it's already very difficult for a team of volunteers to issue a newsletter every now and then, and maybe we could focus on helping both Schlauchen and Sen-chuan for issueing the newsletter.

All info in the newsletter should flow automatically from data EBT ..;-)

Hmmm, I've been thinking about such a feature for a while already, but I'm not sure yet if this would really be useful.

From personal experience automated newsletters are fun for a while but tend to really suck long term. They clog your inbox and everytime another mail shows up you grumble a bit and think "this time I'm REALLY going to unsubscribe" but just delete the mail unread again.

that is why in my idea the option to personalize the newsletter to your own wishes would be good

tha basic newsletter just has to be developped. (well .. just ... ;-) might be a job too , I know..)

the users should choose themselves if they want to receive, ans if yes, what (and when) they would like to see..

Been there, done that. I am receiving quite a few auto-personalized, opt-out newsletters already (Xing, /., Facebook, Air Berlin etc etc). They all suck in the long run.

An opt-in, customizable newsletter would probably be ok, but too few users would actually make use of it. Rolling out such features is quite some work and there is no one else working on new features for EBT besides me. So this idea remains in the "nice to have" queue for now, sorry.

I agree. Even the Press section on the site is not updated!

I agree with Nerzhul, as I doubt how many people would read a computer generated report.

I think a newsletter should have that human touch for it to be appealing.

I see this isn't going to be implemented but anyway, just in case, let me put my 0.02€:

Adding an "unsubscribe" link to the mail would make it very easy to unsubscribe, instead of having to look up the relevant address and send an email there.

Oh, I thought there was a development workgroup in place, created just after the Association.

Yes there is! There are even a couple of members. The problem is that once all hurdles are taken (account setup, transfer of intellectual property handled, access to private forum and codebase granted) we never hear from anyone again.

To date nobody besides avij and me has contributed anything. And avij is concentrating on maintenance nowadays.

yes, I am one of those - shame on me, but I did underestimate the workload of studying  so support, translation and location management will be all from me for the foreseeable future...
