When Robert Kalina designed our euro notes, his concept was to show architectural elements - bridges, windows and arches - that look familiar to European without being actually existing buildings. He even had to adapt some of his designs before they could be produced. So we can say that the bridges on these notes do not exist. Can we?

No, they do exist. Or rather, they are currently being constructed. In the Dutch city of Spijkenisse, south of Rotterdam, a new quarter is built roughly between the bridge across the Oude Maas river and the subway line to Rotterdam. To access that quarter, several small bridges are necessary ... and the designer Robin Stam had the idea to make them look like mini-versions of the euro note bridges.
