Different types of hologram stripe on 5 Euro notes

Post by androl »

The hologram stripe of the 5 euro note comes in two different types:
Every second segment has a € sign, the other segments have a star circle. At every segment, there are the words EURO and ΕΥΡΩ to the left and to the right.
If the word EURO is to the right of the € sign, I call it type A, if it is to the left, type B.
These two variants are not very much mixed, most notes from the beginning have type A, later most printers changed to type B. The Austrian notes are an exception, they started with type B (F001, F002) and changed to type A (F005)

So far, I have found there are both types from these plate numbers:
E003, E004, E006, E007
F003 (+F004?)
J001, J004
L022, L028, L029
M012
P004, P005 (+P006?), P007
U008

Only type A are:
D001
E001, E005
F004, F005
G001, (G003 not seen), G004, (G006 not seen), G007
J005
K001, K002
L001-L021, L023-L027
M001-M011
P001-P003, P008-P010
T001
U001-U007 (U003 not seen)

Only type B are:
E002, E008-E011
F001, F002
J002, J003 (few seen)
K003
L030-L032
M013-M016
P006, P011-P018
R001-R006

Interesting. Thanks for sharing just before the switchover to the new series of notes

Anyway: at this moment I have only french (L032/U) notes and all them are "type A" notes. Unfortunately, I do not know which notes do I have at home in my collection. I guess this time I have no choice: I pass.

However, the difference is interesting. ;)

btw: Thanks for sharing your plate "records". based on them, I imagine that my notes (in my collection, which are basically M/V) are most probably type A too.
