Nothing but older series notes from an ATM withdrawal!

I decided to withdraw some cash this morning on my final day in Riga, and went to an ATM in Old Town Riga and out came six older series €50 notes, including two Trichets and zero Europas.

Normally that won't be an issue, however, I live in the US and have only three more days in Eurozone land and now will have to spend these since I know those are going out of circulation in the next year or two in favor of the Europa €50s, which came out last year and I don't have another trip to Europe slated for at least 2 more years, bar any event that can trigger a return trip to Europe sooner than that.

Has anyone else managed to get that many older notes in one ATM withdrawal lately?

Don't worry, in the Netherlands they are still quite common. They will remain legal tender indefinitely, just like all U.S. dollar bills, so you won't be forced to spend them right away.

Yeah, there are no announced dates for circulation end. Even 2002 fivers are still around. "Old" fifties, I should imagine, should remain for another fifty years. 8)

Also in Finland they are common in circulation. :note-50: is the one of the old notes that I most often see in the circulation (also on my job). Still, not even half of the :note-50: seem to be old series nowadays.

Hey there!

In Spain and from my personal experience, "old" :note-50: are very common. I withdrew €100 from a Sabadell ATM and got two :note-50:, one first series and the other one was new. Most of the old :note-50: are Trichets and you can sometimes find them in unbelievably good condition. My best find for these was a Duisenberg :note-50: printed in Ireland. I got it last october https://es.eurobilltracker.com/notes/?id=223070448. Old :note-20: are more uncommon in ATMs, most of the time you do not get them but I got one some time ago https://es.eurobilltracker.com/notes/?id=225035488. Old :note-5: & :note-10: are much harder to find but I managed to get two :note-5: in change, both of them Trichet, one was in pristine condition and the other one was horrible hahahahahaha. Only kept it because it was the first time I had seen one in a decade maybe. I only have one single Duisenberg :note-10: that I got thanks to my aunts who manage a tobacco store and thus manage some cash.

I was very surprised to withdraw an old series P003/X Duisenberg :note-10: last week from an ATM in Zagreb, Croatia. The note is a bit dirty, but still very nice find.

Do you come across many first series bills in Croatia?

First series banknotes aren't common in Croatia, but with a bit of luck they can be found in circulation.

So far this year I've found:
four :note-5: notes,
three :note-10: notes,
three :note-50: notes,
two :note-100: notes.
I haven't found any 2002 series :note-20: in circulation yet.

Maybe some of these notes arrive from savings (especially larger denominations) and from leftover currency from various travels in times before the euro introduction.
Interestingly, while paying a gas bill last month (which I paid with a :note-200:) I got both old :note-100: and :note-50: as change in a single transaction.

To myself in the Netherlands, that still seems quite common! From the ATM it is still pretty common to get 2002 :note-50: notes, and I have twice in the past 8 years gotten a 2002 :note-20: from an ATM, but I have never encountered any other 2002 note in circulation with the exception of 2002 :note-100: notes that are very common in casinos for some reason! We don’t actually use :note-100: or :note-200: notes here though, so they are very rare to find outside of gambling.
