Here in Portugal there is a bank with CRMs (cash recycling machines) with the possibility of choosing the denominations to withdraw. This bank (Millennium BCP) has this kind of machine in around 2/3 of their branches. Up to some weeks ago, a small part of those machines still gave :note-500: instead of retaining them.

Now, the only chance of getting :note-500: that I know of in Portugal is knowing some teller in any bank who doesn't comply with the EU directives and gives you these notes for some reason.

I don't know about other countries, though.

Similarly in Lithuania. There is also the possibility of getting :note-500: from businessmen or farmers you know who like to keep cash at home :D

Unfortunately, the mentioned Portuguese bank recently removed the possibility of withdrawing :note-500: from their CRM's :( I'm a customer of the bank, I did not take enough of advantage of that while I could.

I am very surprised that in the rest of Europe it is a problem to get a 500 note.
In Slovakia, although it is not customary to withdraw it from an ATM, it is quite common for withdrawals at the post office or at the cash register of a bank.

These banknotes are still valid and commercial banks can still process them.

I tried so until 30 of November 2019. From this date on I didn't get any :note-500: more out of ATMs.
The bank clerks had the order to collect the :note-500: and send them to the related central bank for destruction. Bringing them back into circulation by the bank clerks is prohibited. Quite bad for me because one of my main aim at EBT was to track at least 1000 of them and I had at this moment only 814. In December 2019, the whole year 2020 until march 2021 I got not even one :note-500:  .
I almost gave up tracking these notes but then my nephew started an apprenticeship at an electronic market. OK, the rules say "Additionally, there should be a physical contact with a note — receiving just the serial number and other data from a friend via email is not acceptable." But in this case I violated this rule and got several :note-500: via Whatsapp. My nephew took front- and rear side photos and sent it to my mobilphone, like this one rare beauty: https://en.eurobilltracker.com/notes/?id=217540395
His apprenticeship ended, he left the electronic market and my little well went dry. But then I went to a bank and like: WHO DARES, WINS! asked for :note-500:. I was told, that I won't get these notes but I argued that I don't want the notes itself, only the data on it. To my astonishment I got a :note-500: in my fingers, inscribed the data and returned it. Next time I got 8 of these notes, one after the other. Till now I visit the bank almost every week and get the one or another :note-500: (if there's one on stock). At the time (now) I have 909 of them.

Hello,

I am surprised. I do know that the ECB decided not to include :note-500: in the Europa series, to the best of my knowledge the existing :note-500: were still supposed to be available. Is there really an European order from the ECB to quietly prevent all of those :note-500: banknotes from going public?

Curiously,

In the Sparkasse ATMs in Austria you sometimes also find :note-500: . Found two F/N in Villach this morning. If you want to get a hit, I left it at the branch in the Maria-Gailer-Straße.
