On 2024-12-30 this suggestion of
Tinerfeño reached us via

Status: open
Task given by user:
Current map of Europa shows a lot of Russia, but not Canarias nor Madeira. Would it be possible add modified map to show those areas? Same size but positioned slightly more to west and south. This could be third option on the map selection. And this should also be used for user's hits. I made an example of my map. This can be found here:

I think the layout of the

map was discussed before implemented. What's the current opinion?

edit: corrected the link to the map. Thanks to Tinerfeño for the hint

One more point:
There are now over 250000 notes from Canary Islands, but below 50000 for entire Russia.
Plus islands of Portugal.

Actually, 300k+ for Madeira + Canarias vs 50k- for all of Russia (very few outside the map in fact).
If you add another 80k notes already registered in the Azores, I really wish the map had included these islands too.
The current map is 487 × 521 px.
I haven't measured everything carefully but it looks like it could be 500 × 500 px while still including everything from

Corvo to

Cape Greco (or even the Karpas Peninsula, in Northern Cyprus, where the euro is not official), and from

Nuorgam to

La Restinga.

I know the map that was posted is just a suggestion, but my first thought was "If the map is changed, I hope the northern tip of Finland is not cut off"

I agree that it would make more sense if the whole Eurozone were visible on the map. Also, this is purely subjective, but I think it would look more aesthetically pleasing if Iceland were not cut in half.
Since EBTCheck has several pages that generate dotmap statistics, I’m also curious how such a change would affect marty44, I’ll ping him, just in case he hasn’t read this topic:

If new map would be used, I would need a raw map (means no dots on it) and I would need to know what are the coordinates of the corner dots and so on. I think implementing a new map into EBTCheck would be a huge pain, I remember I sit some days there to encode the dots and so on
