Circulation of the 100 euro notes

I'd love to have notes, not only to track them... but, for some reason I've never been able to understand, in Italy it's almost impossible to get them even from banks, never from ATMs.

Do you have this pain in the ass too?

In Portugal, standard ATM's do not provide them but banks have been gradually introducing a new kind of "for our customers only" tellers which often have .

The problem, then, becomes spending one without being met with a mix of suspicion and annoyance just the other day I was at a museum and a Brazilian tourist standing in front of me at admissions tried to pay for a single ticket with a green one and he was immediately told "oh no, I don't have change for that, sorry... even a would be too much!"

I live in Denmark and frequently ask for at the currency exchange branches or order them directly from my bank. I would like to circulate them more too, but I've got two of them sitting in my "travel funds" and they've been to many countries without getting spent..
In Finland my experience using large notes at hypermarkets have been overall pretty good, and at the end of the day, when the tills are full, it's no problem breaking up a big bill. I once broke up a for a purchase of merely 10€
Breaking up for a few euros ain't never a problem even in small supermarkets. And I really hope it won't become either, cause it's my main tool for getting notes to register

In France I pay very often with in automatic cashier in supermarkets (sometimes in bakeries too), sometimes with , only for purchases under five euros. (Several times at once in supermarkets !! )
It's easier than in traditional cashier...

About in France, in ATM it's very rare. To get them, I trade with merchants.

I certainly feel discouraged... however, our friend Viterbo in this post (in Portuguese) shares the story of how he once paid a relatively small expense with a at a place with an automatic cashier (and hints about doing it more times, I don't know if he has or not). I suppose it helps to establish some kind of rapport with the people working beforehand and ask them. I'm more of a walk-in-quiet-and-leave-mute kind of person haha.

You never see €100 notes in Ireland. You can't get them from ATMs. The one time I got some in Ireland was for a wedding present and I had to go into a bank branch and ask at the counter. You might have difficulty spending €100 in Ireland.

The only time I got a €100 note from and ATM was in Slovakia. I was confused for a second or two when I saw this green thing coming out of the ATM.

Oh yes, some banks that don't have notes selection on their ATMs, they will give you one if you select 100 on your withdrawal. But the there is no problem changing it...what I usually do is pay with coins except of the last five cents in the self checkout machine and then insert or and watch 99.95 or 49.95 in change coming my way. Some self checkouts don't accept and though.

In the Netherlands they are not in the ATM.
In Austria they are. If you request 100 euro, chances are you just get . Because, that's what you asked, isn't it?

When I went to the EU in December I tried very hard to find in ATMs in France and the Netherlands, with not much luck. Most ATMs there only have as the largest bill available. I finally found an ATM in Köln, Germany that had and immediately jumped at the opportunity and got 5 , which I was very happy about. The only other places I was able to get were at casinos across Europe.

I'll be going back to the EU in two weeks, which countries will I have the most luck finding in ATMs? I'm going to . I enjoy using self-checkout machines so I can break them for smaller bills such as to enter.

Ah, so it is similar to most eurozone ATMS with and . I likely will want to use ATMs rather than cashiers as they are simpler and more hassle free, as I am a tourist. Thank you for the information though!

That is great to hear! Do you know which specific banks may have in them? I am only going to be visiting Vilnius.
