Please tell me more about Santa Claus, Dakkus told me that he doesn't come from Rovaniemi for example. This topic is made by an Italian guy who has dreamt for 28 years about a far land called Lapland...

Well.. As said, Santa Claus lives in Korvatunturi. It can be found from this map:
(please note, that the map is 500km from south to north, so the fjell is really far away from Rovaniemi)

Then some pictures of the fjell:

Then about Santa Clauis.. In Finnish his name is Joulupukki. "Joulu" means christmas and "pukki" means goat. So, he's "the christmas goat".
The history of that name is, that before becoming christian Finland already had christmas. It was a celebration of midwinter. It consisted for example of burning fires and scaring evil spirits away by causing huge noise.
Also some presents were given. The christmas goat had them hanging from its antlers. Later Joulupukki turned into a human. It was usually some older man. His clothes were mostly brown (if I remember correctly... - I really mostly slept on that lesson :D)

Joulupukki turned red because of a certain American company producing soft drinks ;)

Parents tell their children that "if you won't behave well, Santa's little elfs will notice it and tell Santa. And then Santa will bring you only twigs as a present!" (for spanking the badly behaving kid).

While not in work, Santa Claus seems to study in Helsinki University of Technology ;D

No, it's the same person - he commutes every day from Korvatunturi to Rovaniemi, where he has his factory outlet store.

Spam. Don't click it. There's a site with addresses. If you write it those addresses to a certain place in your webbrowser, someone will see all the information your web browser gets or sends.

Yes, that is true. :) I visit there quite often and once I took a picture which is now my avatar.

I also was there last Saturday when Santa did open Christamas season. It was a nice 15-16 km walk. We hardly had any snow on Friday, but then it got colder and it did snow on Saturday.

(Btw Korvatunturi is situated on Russian border and it is strictly off limits for ordinary tourists. Not even Finns can visit there.)

Yes, and now in December you can even see live streaming picture with sound.

Camera 1 : Santa meeting visitors (08.00–18.00 CET )
Camera 2: Live picture outside Santa's office

(btw I took this picture from the same place last winter. You can see what happened to the snowmen after several warm winter days.

I'm going to visit Lapland and celebrate the New Year there. Maybe I'll meet Santa on his Reindeer Sleigh...

I know this is a bit off-topic...

Does anyone know if there is a Finnish Ice Hotel? I know that there is one in Swedish Lapland, but is there also one in Finland?

Thanks.
