New Euro issue 2008...
Hi!
Well, in the newspapers I sometimes read about a new Euro issue that is scheduled for 2008. I just can't stop wondering, whether the 2002 issue will keep their value then until the bills are torn by natural usuage or they will all be put "out of service" by a day and you will have to change them again into the new issue.
So, in case of the second possibility, what will happen to all the bills that are already entered until then at Eurobilltracker? Would the database be resetted for the second issue? And do we have to build up a new database? In case of this it would take some time to make EBT so big as it is right now, and the hitratio would surely decrease drastically. And will I ever get a hit before 2008? hmmm...
Just wondering...

I believe it takes many years for all the "old" notes to vanish from circulation. And this happends by normal use. I don't think that banks would start to remove old notes just because they're old.
So old notes will eventually be lost. But new ones will be entered. This is how it always works. So no need to worry.

Living away from Euro zone in the beautiful Vancouver, Canada since January 2012. Experiences and stories of living in here can be found in here (in Finnish).

And there still is a lot of reserve at the banks, so it will take a while before all the 'old' ones are used

Is that definitely true?
In England, when they introduce a new design, the old note is only legal tender for a short while afterwards (but I guess it depends on how different the new note is - I think the new designs in England maybe have more security features, so the older style is then taken our of circulation).

But it were new notes that were discussed, not coins. At least on all notes I've ever seen there is a huge map covering Europe from Iceland to Turkey, part of Africa is on it and even this island that can be found between France and Ireland!
Actually I don't think that the issuance of the new series is done only because of the new Euro members. In this document ECB says that mainly updating the security features is the reason. This file is worth reading, you learn for example that the strongest demand for new banknotes are
and
and that the average denomination in the Euro zone is 54 EUR!! Never thought it would be that high.
Interesting is also the Wikipedia entry about the euro notes, I am pretty sure it was written by a tracker, although probably not from EBT, because it is only the second site in the list of links. First one is eurotracer and ECB is not mentioned at all...
